I'm convinced stories have minds of their own. I've been thinking about the book I'm currently working on for five years. I started and stopped. I worried about it and cried over it. I thought I was never going to write another book. But I guess I just had to be ready.

Thinking time is writing time, people. Thinking time is writing time. Don't ever forget it.

🌟 Happy Friday, Writers! 🌟
No, you’re not crazy if you like your day job. 🖤

There’s this myth that being a “real writer” means working full-time on your craft. But let’s face it—that’s not everyone’s dream or reality, and that’s okay.

Your job—whether it’s in a corporate office, a classroom, or running your own business—doesn’t make you less of a writer. In fact, it’s often what enables you to write.

💼 Monetary Benefits: Your paycheck supports your creative pursuits.
👥 Social Rewards: A steady job connects you to a community and new perspectives.
💡 Professional Growth: You’ve gained skills (hello, time management!) that can help you tackle writing like a pro.

And let’s be real—writing is hard. Balancing it with a day job is a superpower. So embrace the duality of your life, and let the things you learn and experience fuel your stories.

🎉 Give yourself a pat on the back for showing up—both at work and on the page. You’re doing amazing.

Happy writing! ✍️✨

So, I was blocked for several years. I had ideas but the words wouldn't come. A few months ago I committed to writing 30 minutes a day.

Sometimes, I wrote two lines, sometimes two paragraphs. More than once I deleted everything I wrote.

Then last month, the dam broke and words came flooding out. I am almost done with my first book in over three years.

The point? Don't give up. Don't ever give up. Do something with your story every day, even if it seems insignificant. You can do it.

So, have you ever dealt with writer's block? What did you do?

No, you're not crazy for...

💻Carrying your laptop everywhere 'just in case'! Those stolen writing moments add up to finished books. Trust me, I wrote half a novel during my kids' sports practices! 😉

What's your 'crazy' writing habit?

Today's snack: Let's talk about transferable skills!

For a long time I juggled teaching, family and my writing contracts. I employed planning and routines to get through my days, but the skills to organize my time didn't happen in a vacuum. I learned how to juggle when I was a young mom with three kids under five, a full time job and I was going to library school. Here's how to identify your hidden strengths:

📚Look at what people ask you for help with. Are you the go-to person for planning? Organization?
Problem-solving? These are clues to your natural strengths.

📚Notice what feels easy to you that others find challenging. My ability to categorize and structure information as a librarian translated perfectly into story organization.

📚Think about your daily wins. How do you manage your current responsibilities? Those strategies can adapt to your writing life.

📚Review past successes. What got you through challenging times? Those same skills will serve your writing career.
