My mission is to connect people with support and resources in education. I want to engage people in the process of finding their own educational journey

We are in desperate need of dry dog and cat food for our Pet Care Assistance program. Our shelves are almost empty. With the cold temperatures outside, we don't want people to have to choose between paying for heating oil or feeding their pets.

The Literacy Project, Inc. was founded by Lindy Whiton and Jim Vaughan in 1984. After a year of working on an adult basic education grant for Greenfield Community College, Lindy and Jim formed a partnership and opened an office in an old factory building on Wells St. in Greenfield. The mission was to teach people ages 16 on to read, write, calculate and pass their GED’s. The true mission was to facilitate both individual and community empowerment through education. Soon there were several sites across Western Massachusetts. By 1986 TLP was a non-profit helping over 300 students per year. Today five sites burgeon with success and not only do they help people attain their high school equivalency, but they help them find self confidence and curiosity to become long term learners.
I am very proud of the successes of T.L.P. and continue to encourage their endeavors. It made some sense for me to highlight them first in my bi-monthly educational resource spotlight.
TLP has sites in Orange, Ware, Amherst, Northampton and Greenfield. They are supported by many contributions, many grants and the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, and volunteers who support in many ways. Judith Roberts is the Executive Director; she leads a staff that includes teachers at all sites, a volunteer coordinator, a technology coordinator and support staff.

I am introducing my business today and asking for your help in spreading the word. I am going to be highly dependent on my network for two major reasons; one, to find clients, and two to be or find resources for clients.
I am now ready to market my wares. This business is based on a service I perform naturally and have for many years; helping people discover and build an educational plan has been a part of my job since my days as Executive Director of TLP. If you have any friends or clients you think would be interested in this service, please pass this information on.
To begin with I will be meeting clients in public spaces. I feel good about this because spaces such as libraries or cafes allow people to meet me in safe and comfortable rooms. If you have ideas of such spaces in your communities, again, please pass information on. If you have brochures, program descriptions of an alternative program and want to send me copies, please do. If you want to connect and have a conversation on how best we could work together, please send me an email with good times to meet.
Thanks for taking a moment to look this over. If you wish several copies of the brochure, please let me know and I will mail you some. Contact me if you need anything or have further questions. I am very excited about this new direction and cannot wait for the work to begin.
Thank you in advance.
Sincerely,

Lindy Whiton, Ed.D.
