The school year has been off to a fun start for our Cougars enrolled in Ag Education!
⭐️ Principles of Agriculture has been learning all about agriculture! Not only about how agriculture has evolved to meet our needs for food, clothing, and shelter, but also about commodities grown in Indiana & across the country! Highlighting different sectors of the agriculture industry and innovation, we enjoyed popcorn while learning about Orville Redenbacher, a fellow Hoosier whose life's work has made an everlasting impact on popcorn and Indiana agriculture! 🌽🍿
⭐️ Animal Science students have been exploring products derived from animals and animal byproducts that we interact with everyday. We learned about careers in Animal Science, including a deep dive on Animal Science careers in Hancock County. We are diving into taxonomy, and started with creating taxonomic classifications for our favorite snacks as examples, including enjoying some candy and snacks in class! 🐮🐷👩⚕️🍫
⭐️ Food Science students have been covering technology that has shaped the modern food industry, food policies and regulations that impact food safety and nutrition, what different food labels are and how that impacts consumer decisions, and students made their own trendy popcorn flavors as we learned about food trends and the opportunities they create in both food and agriculture! 🍿🏛🚚🏷
⭐️ Ag Research Capstone students (not pictured) have been exploring the scientific methods and it's use in solving problems in agriculture, how data shapes decision-making, and considering problems they have seen in agriculture. As students learn more about agricultural research, they are also being asked to explore areas of agriculture of interest to them to narrow down a specific problem in agriculture to conduct research on later in the year! 🔬🧪🥼
