We had a great Monday today at GCJHS! Our FCA club met this morning and students hit our doors with the confidence of having one week under their belts. We were also fortunate to have a visit from students of our sister city of Kakuda, Japan to tour our building today. We stopped by Mr. Archibald’s P.E. class, the Band department, Mrs. Day’s Biology class, and Mr. Marthin’s Technical Education class where we built catapults. It was a great experience all around!

The current gig for around 30 of our GC Band Students at INpact Band!

They along with 1000 other students represent all 6th-9th grade band students across the state of Indiana at DCI Finals at Lucas Oil Stadium tomorrow!

We have had a great first week of school here at GCJHS! A lot of things learned about our school and classes, our first football scrimmage, and we ended the week with our “Expectations Convocation” now that our students are in a routine. 🎉 Help us welcome Jennifer Pummill to the GC Family!

👩🏻‍🏫 Mrs. Pummill will be a 8th Grade Special Education Teacher at Greenfield Central Junior High School.

🫶🏼 Get to know Jennifer . . . .

🔷Hometown: I grew up in Elkhart, IN and graduated from Elkhart Central High School.
🟡College: I attended Anderson University, Indiana University South Bend, and Western Governors University.
🔷Family: My husband and I moved to New Palestine, IN. 8 years ago. I enjoy all things summer and sunshine!
🟡Favorite subject in school: My favorite subject was math - specifically Geometry and Trigonometry.
🔷Experience working with kids: I've taught in 3 school districts across Indiana and 1 in Tennessee. I've taught math for grades 4, 6, and 8 and have been a special education teacher in both elementary and middle school.
🟡Why do you want to work in schools?: I have always loved school and loved learning new things. My "first career" was in mortgage banking, but the passion to become a teacher really was sparked as I volunteered and ran parent organizations while my daughter was in school. Being able to connect with kids and give them the encouragement and support to fulfill their dreams is the greatest privilege.
🔷FUN FACT: I am currently working towards two personal goals - learning to crochet and running a 5k.

Good Morning GCJHS Community,

We had a successful 8th grade back to school night last night where most of our 8th graders and families were in attendance. It was great to see everyone and exciting to see our returning students. Tonight is our seventh grade back to school night from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. and we look forward to welcoming you all into our building so students can find their classes and lockers. Please make sure you pick up your student's class schedule so they have it for Monday. If they need one as they come into school on Monday, they can stop by student services. Please ask for help if needed as you meet our staff.

One item of note that I want to make sure all GCJHS families are reminded of: we are moving back to students using lockers throughout the school day and backpacks will not be permitted in classrooms. Backpacks are to be stored in lockers until the end of the day. Students will have their MacBook Neo and computer bags to carry with them that can handle smaller items for storage within the bag pocket. Students can also have a small purse/satchel for hygiene items as needed. The only exception the the backpack rule is for any student who has a performing arts class (band and choir) or gym seventh period. Students are to take their backpacks to these classes where they will be stored in class until the end of the period. This is for logistical reasons for dismissal at the end of the day and traffic flow of our students as they exit the building.

Electronic devices should be stored in backpacks or lockers as well during the school day due to the new State law. Students can use phones if needed before homeroom to contact parents on any needs they have (forgotten item at home, etc) but from "Bell to Bell - No Cell" will be in effect. When you need to send a message to a student, you can email them via their school email or call our main office at 317-477-4616 and we can relay a message.

I hope this clarification helps. It will be a slight adjustment for our eighth graders and just a continuation of intermediate policy for our seventh graders. If you have any questions on this, please feel free to reach out to a school administrator.
