Today is a sad day, as we have lost one of our nation’s best, and a fierce champion for literacy.

Through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, more than 300 million books have reached children around the world, placing books in little hands, encouraging a love of reading, and helping children discover the possibilities that exist beyond the pages.

Her work reminds us that literacy is more than learning to read. It opens doors. It is about opportunity, imagination, confidence, and the freedom to dream.

Thank you, Dolly, for using your remarkable platform to make such an extraordinary difference in the lives of children. Your impact will live on in every child who opens a book and begins to imagine what is possible. 📚 Rest in peace, sweet Dolly.

This past year, we have been training several groups of teachers from Sun Prairie Schools in Wisconsin. Their literacy data has shown big gains since implementing their knowledge with Slant System! This summer, we had the privilege of working with another incredible group of their teachers.

They could have been relaxing, traveling, or simply enjoying a much-needed break (a teacher’s job is incredibly hard and tiring!), but instead, they chose to spend their summer deepening their knowledge of Slant System Structured Literacy practices.

We love hearing literacy success stories and we were so happy to see Dr Katie Jenner, Indiana's Secretary of Education's, newsletter this week. In Indiana, 88.7% of third grade students are reading! 👏 Their statewide literacy rates have climbed 📈7.5 percentage points since 2021, and Slant System is proud to be a part of that growth through the many Indiana schools and teachers that we have trained. There's no doubt about it: properly trained teachers = improved reading scores! ⭐

Sometimes the signs of dyslexia show up long before a child has a diagnosis. 💙

Slow or inaccurate reading, difficulty with sounds, persistent letter reversals, spelling struggles, memory challenges, and trouble staying organized can all be signs that a child may need additional support.

One red flag alone doesn’t necessarily mean dyslexia, but when several signs persist, it may be worth taking a closer look.

✨ Early identification matters. The sooner we understand why a child is struggling, the sooner we can provide the right instruction and help build their skills and confidence.

We love our partnership with Dyslexia Achievement Center!

At Dyslexia Achievement Center, reading intervention is never one-size-fits-all.

We use the Slant System Orton-Gillingham Structured Literacy —an explicit, systematic, and multimodal structured literacy approach rooted in the science of reading. Each lesson is personalized to meet the student’s specific needs while building the skills and confidence needed for lasting reading success.

This evidence-based approach is designed to support students with dyslexia and other struggling readers.

What if learning to read could become part of someone’s path toward a different future? That’s the question behind a special project currently underway at Slant System™.

Our team is deconstructing our Foundations Manual as we work alongside JUST of DuPage and the DuPage County Correctional Center to develop literacy and learning-to-read opportunities for individuals in the facility.

Under the leadership of DuPage County Sheriff's Office and Sheriff James Mendrick, JUST of DuPage takes a comprehensive approach to rehabilitation, bringing together education, vocational training, life skills, and other programs designed to help individuals prepare for successful reintegration into the community.

We’re honored that Slant System™ has been selected to contribute to that mission through literacy. Because struggling to read can impact far more than what happens in a classroom.

Reading can affect a person’s ability to learn, pursue employment, navigate everyday life, build independence, and access opportunities.

That’s why this work matters.

Right now, we’re carefully examining how the Slant System™ approach and its Structured Literacy Foundations can be adapted for this unique population and setting.

We’re still building.
We’re still learning.
And we’re excited about what’s ahead.
