Lots of exciting things have been happening in the classrooms! During this last week at Cougar Cubs, the concepts included emotions, feelings, reviewing the number 2 and square through hands on approaches. Miss Stephanie, from the Hancock County Public Library, visited the East location for some stories and songs. Many rooms are beginning to introduce some life value terms, such as "Stick Together", "Gentle and Kind", "No Hurts" and "Have Fun" all the while teaching what these concepts mean when we are in school.

Mrs. Hale’s class did some outside painting on Friday! The children explored different STEAM concepts in 3 stations. They used pipettes to drop different sized drops of water color onto paper and watched as they dripped down. Which went faster, the big drops or the small drops? They put water colors in spray bottles and watched as the colors mixed and ran together. Last, they fashioned a cardboard ramp from cardboard and rolled plastic balls and toy cars through paint and down the ramp. One of the quotes from today “look I’m making fireworks!” -spray painting

They may all have pink feet but they had so much fun!

For Fun Friday in Ms. Kaylee’s room, the children listened to four very different pieces of music and painted how each one made them feel! The kids experimented with colors, brush strokes, and movement as the music changed. No right or wrong way to paint, just listen, feel, and create!

Many classes have been discussing emotions this week-how they might make one feel, what your face might look like if you feel someway. Ms. Rebekah set up a fun activity this week for children to take turns tracing their friends face through the easel while the friend made an emotion face. So much giggling happened too!

Did you know that Indiana does have State Early Learning Standards for preschool programs? Cougar Cubs Preschool is proud to utilize these standards within all of our classrooms to make sure young children are getting the best, well rounded start to their early education. Young children learn best through play! So although you might see a lot of play within a preschool classroom, teachers are intently setting up activities to meet several standards at once throughout a day! Interested in seeing what early educators in the state feel are important standards to work towards in Preschool to strive for Kindergarten Readiness? Preschool is often one of the first times children spend extended periods of time in a group setting. At this age, children are still developing their immune systems and learning important health habits such as covering coughs and sneezes, washing hands, keeping hands away from their faces, and giving others personal space when they are sick.
Because preschoolers learn through play, exploration, and close interaction with their friends, illness will sometimes happen despite everyone's best efforts. We cannot prevent every cough, cold, or stomach bug, but we can work together to reduce the spread of germs.

What we can do together:
🏫 At school, we will:
Encourage frequent handwashing.
Teach and remind children to cover coughs and sneezes.
Clean and disinfect commonly used surfaces and materials.
Encourage children not to share food or drinks.
Monitor children who aren't feeling well and follow our school illness procedures.
🏠 At home, families can:
Keep children home when they are sick according to school guidelines.
Practice covering coughs and sneezes.
Encourage good handwashing.
Teach children to throw tissues away and wash their hands afterward.
Let us know when your child has been diagnosed with a contagious illness so we can follow appropriate procedures.
Most importantly...
Getting sick does not mean that anyone has done something wrong. ❤️
Young children are learning how to care for themselves and others, and unfortunately, that learning sometimes comes with a runny nose, cough, or fever.

Thank you for partnering with us to keep our preschool community as healthy as possible while recognizing that a certain amount of illness is a normal part of growing up and being part of a preschool community.
We appreciate your patience, understanding, and partnership! 🌟

Mrs. Garrison and Mrs. Baker did fine motor stations with their students today! Students worked on their fine motor skills by putting stickers on different lines, using dot markers to make their names, using small hand tweezers to put pom poms on lines, and putting mini erasers on different lines! What a fun Fine Motor Friday the students had!
