Attention parents! Do you know what your high school student should be doing RIGHT NOW to best prepare for college admissions and scholarships? Do you know which colleges even make sense to look at? Did you know that a college’s “sticker price” isn’t always what you’ll actually have to pay? Did you know that some colleges’ first award isn’t always everything that they’re willing to give you?

If you want to learn the rules, level the playing field, and make sure that you leave no money on the table, contact Amy at 317-369-0236!

Freshmen/sophimores/juniors: it’s not too early for any of you to do official college visits! No parent of a college freshman complains that they started visits too early in their student’s high school years. The earlier you start, the more educated decision your student will make later when it’s time for him/her to choose his final college.

The beta version of the 2025-26 FAFSA is available for those families who want to submit the form early, but kinks are still being worked out. The final version of the 2025-26 FAFSA will be released 12/1/24 and it is fine to wait until then to work on it.

For those of you looking for the 2025-26 FAFSA, it is supposed to be released Dec 1, 2024.

The colleges continue to have problems with FAFSAs. In previous years, almost all financial aid awards were sent by now. But this year, due to continual FAFSA problems and ever moving FAFSA deadlines, most colleges are concerned that they’ll be able to get awards out by May 1st. If not, look for an extension on your decision date.

High school students, when scheduling courses for next year, remember that it’s not all about taking the minimum courses required for your hs diploma. Instead, think broader … consider the courses that will make you look more appealing to/more competitive for colleges.

Parents of high school seniors: if you submitted the 2024-25 FAFSA it will continue to say “In process” when you login until the Dept of Education sends your FAFSA info to colleges sometime in mid-March. Keep an eye out for this … colleges will be able to put together your finanical aid award once they receive your FAFSA info.
