IT'S SHOWTIME, GREENE!
The 2nd Annual Brushstrokes of the Past Art Show is almost here!

THE GRAND INFO:
Opening Night is Thursday, November 5, 2026.
6PM at the Moore Memorial Library, Greene NY

The GCS Art Department is still in awe of the incredible love and support our community showed us last year! With over 200 people in attendance, our very first Brushstrokes of the Past was an evening we will never forget. We are hoping to make this year's celebration even more spectacular.

Our talented Advanced Art students have been working hard to prepare for another very special community project. Students have already selected their historical homes and buildings throughout the Greene district.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Greene Historical Society, our friends at the Moore Memorial Library and our Town Historian for generously sharing their time, knowledge and guidance. Their contributions have helped our young artists connect with the remarkable history that surrounds us every day.

If your home or building has been selected for this year's exhibition, you will receive a one-of-a-kind invitation, lovingly painted by our students and beautifully wrapped with L.A. Najarian ribbon!

If your invitation has not yet arrived, fear not! These special deliveries will be making their way to you throughout this week.

There is something truly magical about bringing generations together through art, history and the stories of the place we call home. Here's to another unforgettable evening celebrating the beauty, history and heart of Greene!

National Principals Month is celebrated 🎉 every October to honor the dedication, leadership, and impact of School Principals across the United States. GCS would like to take the opportunity each week this month, to highlight one of our four building principals, who all play a vital role in shaping the quality of education, fostering safe and productive learning environments, and supporting student success. Please take time this month to express your gratitude for their tireless efforts in managing school operations, guiding staff, making curriculum decisions, and promoting a positive school culture!

Greene Primary and Intermediate students got to meet author Alicia Klepeis who writes books for National Geographic and today she is the author of more than 200 kids’ books, both nonfiction and fiction. Alicia pointed out the importance of reading, writing, using your imagination, asking a lot of questions, researching, and trying new things. “Bonnye is a well-known, and well-loved member of our team. The children all know her, and they love her. She puts smiles on their faces every day. She is willing to help any teacher at any time. She goes out of her way to help students and staff members. She's always one of the first to volunteer to help with events. She's always willing to give of herself.”

Why they changed the game:
"Shelbe is, quite simply, a rockstar in the middle school. She is the kind of person who doesn’t just show up, she shows up BIG. She leads the 7th grade team, co-advises Yearbook, co-advises Student Council with me, and somehow still finds the time and energy to take on countless other responsibilities. She is always willing to jump in, lend a hand, and make things better for both students and staff.

One of the things that makes Shelbe such a game changer is the way she brings real world learning into her FACS classroom. She invites professionals from the world of finance to work with her students on personal finance, banking, checkbooks, and the kinds of skills they will genuinely need as they grow up. Additionally, she invites nutritionists from Cornell and other places to teach students about making healthy choices. But she doesn’t stop there. Shelbe goes above and beyond to teach her students important life skills like sewing, cooking, baking, and so much more."
