This week, students in JAG prepared for the upcoming Career Development Conference by practicing their presentations and interviews. Students also took on the roles of mock interviewers and judges, providing feedback to help their peers continue improving their communication, interviewing, and public speaking skills. This activity also allowed students to experience the process from the interviewer’s perspective, helping them better understand what employers look for during interviews.

With only 9 1/2 weeks of high school remaining for our seniors, I want to extend a very special thank you to Tammy Keenan and Ashley Pearison at Ivy Tech Community College Greencastle for the time, care, and energy they invested in organizing a Workforce Options visit for our JAG seniors.

Our students had the opportunity to meet with several outstanding workforce partners from our community, and were thoughtfully matched to their individual career interests. In small-group settings, they spoke with experienced professionals about career pathways in their industries, post-secondary education requirements, hiring expectations, and what strong workplace performance looks like. These real-world conversations are invaluable as our students prepare for life after high school.

During lunch, several students shared how beneficial the experience was and how much they appreciated the chance to connect directly professionals in their fields of interest. As an added point of pride, I was stopped on my way out of Monical’s Pizza by two separate tables who complimented our students on their behavior and asked about the purpose of our visit. It was a wonderful reflection of their professionalism and character.

A heartfelt thank you to Monical’s for the delicious lunch and exceptional service. We are grateful for such strong community partnerships that help make meaningful experiences like this possible for our students.

Also, thanks to our wonderful bus driver, Brandi, for driving us safely!
