This morning, we had the pleasure of celebrating our students at the 1st 9 Weeks Awards Assemblies for Kindergarten through 2nd Grade and 3rd through 5th Grade!

Our students were recognized for their accomplishments in Literacy, Math, Science, Social Studies, Keyboarding, Integrity, and Perfect Attendance. We love seeing our Panthers work hard and reach new heights!

Students were also celebrated with the Wooster Way Award for consistently demonstrating Respect, Responsibility, and Cooperation throughout our school. These Panthers are great examples of what it means to live out the Wooster Way!

Additionally, Mrs. Robinson and Mr. Darling presented the prestigious Principal Award to a select group of students who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and set a positive example for others throughout the building.

Congratulations to all of our award recipients! Your hard work, perseverance, and dedication make us proud. Keep climbing toward new heights! ⛰️🐾

Paging all math surgeons! It’s time for an Order of Operations operation! ➕➖✖️➗

Today, Ms. Pendergrass’ students were in full operation mode as she transformed the classroom into an Order of Operations Room! 🏥

Her mathematicians were given a set of cards featuring equations with multiple operations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. The students worked through each problem, showing their mathematical thinking on butcher paper featuring patient outlines! 📝🩺

These math surgeons were hard at work diagnosing each equation and carefully following the order of operations to find the correct solution. It was a successful day of problem-solving and mathematical thinking!

🥜🍇 A Recipe for Great Writing! 🍞✏️

How do you make the perfect peanut butter and jelly sandwich? Our students put their narrative writing skills to the test with this deliciously fun activity!

Students in Mrs. Bush’s class began by responding to the prompt, “How to Make a Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich.” They focused on including elaborative details and sequencing events in the correct order.

Then came the real-life challenge! 🥪 Students made PB&J sandwiches by following their written directions exactly as they were written. This hands-on experience helped them see just how important clear instructions, specific details, and proper sequencing are when writing a narrative.

Sometimes, the best way to become a better writer is to get a little messy and make a sandwich! 😋 Our students learned that the more details they include, the easier it is for someone else to follow their writing!

Last week, our Panthers engaged in exciting, hands-on learning experiences across grade levels! Fifth graders practiced converting decimals using manipulatives, while Ms. Raney’s students analyzed weather data to identify the best month for a field day. Our youngest Panthers enjoyed a pumpkin patch adventure at BoBrook Farms, connecting their classroom reading to real-world experiences, and second graders became “Word Surgeons” as they practiced creating contractions. We love seeing our students build skills, explore new concepts, and bring their learning to life!

This week, we will have our first PTO Meeting along with our Parent Volunteer Training on Tuesday, October 13th.

Also this week, we will hold our 1st 9 Weeks awards assembly on Wednesday. We can't wait to celebrate our students for their achievements!

Additionally, the Scholastic Book Fair will be open for purchasing during specific times on Monday through Wednesday and on Thursday during conferences from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Last but certainly not least, there will be NO SCHOOL on Thursday and Friday of this week. However, we will have parent teacher conferences that will be student led on Thursday, October 15 of this week.

We have finished our first nine weeks at Wooster Elementary and we look forward to start the next part of our climb!

🩺✂️ Calling All Contraction Surgeons! 🩹🐾

Our 2nd graders scrubbed in for some exciting grammar practice as they became WORD SURGEONS! 🥼🩺

These little surgeons performed “contraction surgery” by carefully removing letters from two words and replacing them with an apostrophe to create contractions! From the operating table to the final results, our Panthers had a blast sharpening their grammar skills while learning how words can work together in new ways. ✏️📝

The verdict is in… SURGERY WAS A SUCCESS!

Kindergarten visits BoBrook Farms

Our youngest Panthers headed to BoBrook Farms LLC for a fun-filled day at the pumpkin patch! 🎃

From the moment they arrived, there were adventures waiting around every corner.
Students took a hayride out to the pumpkin field, watched exciting pig races, played in the corn, raced toy ducks, climbed hay bales and zoomed down the tube slides, played games, and even got to pick their very own pumpkins! 🦆🛝🌽🐷

This field trip was also a wonderful way to connect their classroom learning to real-world experiences! In the classroom, students have been reading books about pumpkins while learning to identify the setting, important events, and key vocabulary from their texts. Today, they got to experience many of those pumpkin-themed ideas firsthand!

It was a day filled with smiles, laughter, learning, and memories that our Kindergarten students will be talking about for a long time!

Today, Ms. Raney’s students put their data-analysis skills to work as they explored how data tables and graphs can help us choose the best month for a field day! 🗓️📊

The students analyzed weather data and used evidence to identify patterns and determine which month would provide the most favorable conditions. ☀️🌦️⛈️

This activity connected directly to their science learning goal: representing data to describe typical weather conditions expected during a particular season. 🌨️🌻☀️🍂

We love seeing our students use data, make observations, and support their thinking with evidence! 🐾📈☀️

Yesterday, during 5th Grade’s Tier 2 intervention time, Mrs. Pendergrass worked with her students to strengthen their understanding of the converting process for numbers with decimals! 🧮

The students got to practice using important math language such as multiplying by ten, converting, and base ten as they worked through the concept. 🔟

Her students used hands-on manipulatives and mats to make the learning more interactive, helping our visual-kinesthetic learners build a stronger understanding of the skill. They also had the opportunity to demonstrate their learning at the Smart Board! 🖥️

Way to go, Panthers! Keep learning, growing, and reaching new heights! 🏔️🐾📈

This past Friday at Spirit Day, we celebrated two of the hardest-climbing, hardest-working ladies at Wooster Elementary for National Custodians Day! ⛰️

From keeping our school looking clean to tackling every mess that comes their way, Ms. Merline and Mrs. Cherri help keep Wooster running smoothly each and every day! 🧹🪣✨

We’re sending a mountain chain echoing THANK YOU for the grit, heart, and hustle you bring to our school. Your hard work helps our Panthers reach new heights every day! 🐾🏔️

ear Wooster Elementary Families,

Last Monday, our youngest Panthers kicked off their exciting new farm unit with a fun-filled day at Kinder Farm! The students explored Click, Clack, Moo, practiced identifying story settings and retelling important events, and wrote about animals they saw in the story. In math, they practiced greater than and less than using farm animals before discussing needs and wants found around a farm.

Also, during PROWL last week, some of our 1st graders put their word skills to work by practicing how to add the suffix -s to words. The students selected words or pictures, added -s, recorded their new words on a Tic-Tac-Toe board, and had fun competing to get three in a row!

In addition, Mrs. Allen’s class was busy strengthening their cursive handwriting skills last week! Students practiced the correct formation of uppercase and lowercase cursive letters while using common paths of movement to build consistency, accuracy, and confidence in their writing.

Additionally, Mrs. McCarty’s class had fun with Roll & Read while building their reading skills with a partner! The students took turns reading nonsense words, focusing on mastering tricky two-syllable words while practicing, encouraging one another, and having fun along the way.

Last but certainly not least, we held our Pink Out Spirit Day on Friday! We kicked off the celebration with our Honor Guard proudly presenting the colors and leading us in the Pledge of Allegiance. We then celebrated several grade levels and classes for demonstrating what it means to be a Panther through clean classrooms, great cafeteria behavior, and good sportsmanship on the playground. We also recognized our September Character Kids, who consistently demonstrated RESPECT throughout the month. These students are shining examples of the character and Panther pride that make our school community so special!

This week, our 3rd through 5th grader we will have ATLAS Makeup testing for those 3rd through 5th graders who were absent last week, our kindergarten students will have their first field trip to BoBrook Farms Pumpkin Patch, and we will have Wooster Clubs Day on Friday.

We have almost finished our first nine weeks at Wooster Elementary as we continue climbing to new heights!
