Our little learners had a sunshine-filled day of learning and exploring during our Color Unit! 💛

They traded their boards for giant yellow paper to practice writing their letters and used their listening skills to identify beginning sounds while creating their yellow Letter Buses! 🚌

In Math, we kicked off Counting Collections and got busy counting, sorting, and exploring our collections! 🔢

It was a bright and cheerful day filled with learning, discovery, and lots of YELLOW! 💛🌻

Our third graders kicked off their new novel study, The Orphan of Ellis Island, by stepping back in time and experiencing what it was like to immigrate to America! 📖

With passports in hand, our young travelers made their way through different parts of the immigration process, including registration and customs. They had their passports stamped along the way and even explored an example of European money that immigrants may have exchanged for American currency. 💰🛂📜

History comes to life when you get to experience it! Our little immigrants had a blast traveling through the process and are now ready to dive into the story of The Orphan of Ellis Island! 🗽

What an exciting way to begin their next literary adventure!

Our Kindergarteners had a fun-filled day of learning and surprises! 💚

They tackled their computers and completed the beginning-of-kindergarten ATLAS Math screener, enjoyed some much-awaited playground recess, and continued ABC Bootcamp with uppercase D and P—our “Frog Jump Letters!” 🐸

During Read Aloud, we explored Little Blue & Little Yellow and discovered how blue + yellow = GREEN! 🔵🟡🟢

Math brought the biggest surprise of the day! Zero the Hero left a sparkly bag filled with treasures, including his counting cape and mask, a special book, a 10-frame challenge with GREEN stickers, and even a zero-shaped ring treat! 🦸🏻‍♂️💚

What a fun day of learning, exploring, and celebrating GREEN! 💚

Our youngest learners started their Kindergarten Color Unit today with RED DAY! ❤️

Our kindergarteners explored the color RED in so many fun and meaningful ways! The students did the following:

📚 Read Mary Had Her Red Dress On
👕 Graphed RED clothing
🎶 Sang RED songs
✏️ Wrote about the RED things they like

What a fun way to learn, discover, and celebrate our first color! ❤️

Our little climbers are off to a GREAT start as they journey toward the highest peak! ⛰️🌟

Second Grade is kicking off their first read-aloud chapter book of the year—Charlotte’s Web! 🐷🕸️📖

Our second grade teachers hooked their students from the very beginning by dressing up as farmers, transforming the halls into a fun, farm-like atmosphere, and even treating students to a special spider web sweet treat! 🕷️

As they journey through the story, students are following along in the text while:

🕸️Asking and answering questions

🕸️Using base-word knowledge to identify words with prefixes and suffixes

🕸️Describing character traits of the people and animals

🕸️Making connections and digging deeper into the story

The excitement is already growing as students can’t wait to discover what happens next in Wilbur and Charlotte’s unforgettable story!

Last week, our first graders stepped into the role of archaeologists as they began their Social Studies unit on the Ancient Maya. Dressed as young explorers, students dug for artifacts and uncovered clues from the past, sparking curiosity and building excitement for the learning ahead. This hands-on experience gave our students an engaging way to begin exploring the fascinating world of the Ancient Maya.

Meanwhile, our kindergarteners are off to a Fantastic Start! They are learning school rules and practicing what it means to Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Cooperative—the core values of the Wooster Way. Our youngest students are also building classroom community through carpet partnerships and whisper sharing while developing important literacy skills. They are learning to recognize the difference between letters, words, and sentences by exploring one of their favorite words of all—their own names!

This week, our K–3 students will be taking their ATLAS Screeners, which are part of their beginning-of-the-year state assessments. Kindergarten students will take their math screener, as they already completed their literacy screener during kindergarten screening. First and second graders will take both their literacy and math screeners, while third graders will take their literacy screener only. These assessments provide valuable information about what our students know and can do at the beginning of the school year and help our teachers plan instruction and support to meet each student's individual learning needs.

Also this week, our kindergarteners will be starting their Color Unit this week! To make the week even more fun, we invite all Wooster students to join in by wearing the featured color each day. It's a great way for our entire school community to participate and celebrate learning together! Please see the graphic below for the color schedule for each day.

It has been wonderful to see our students learning, exploring, and growing during these first two weeks of school. We are proud of the enthusiasm and curiosity they are bringing to their classrooms each day!

We are off to a fantastic start at Wooster Elementary as we continue climbing to new heights!

Let's make it an amazing week at Wooster Elementary!

Our Kindergarten Wooster Panthers are off to a Fantastic Start!

They’ve been learning about school rules, making good choices, being respectful, responsible, and cooperative. 💙

They were also introduced to their carpet partners and practiced whisper sharing, learning that being a great partner means both speaking clearly and being a good listener.

In literacy, our Panthers are learning to recognize the difference between letters, words, and sentences using their favorite words—their names! Tearing paper to create their names also gave them some extra fine-motor practice to strengthen those hand muscles!

So many important skills are being learned as our little Panthers take their first steps toward the summit! 🏔️🐾

The student’s in Ms. Pendergrass’ 5th grade math class took learning to a whole new level with a human place value chart!

Students became the “Numbers” and physically shifted digits around the decimal to explore how their values change when multiplied or divided by powers of ten. 🔟

They worked through problems, communicated with their classmates who were representing each place, and had a great group discussion about place value, decimals, and powers of ten.

What a fun and interactive way to make a challenging math concept come to life!

We love seeing our students learning, collaborating, communicating, and reaching new heights! ⛰️📈

Our 1st Grade students are kicking off their Social Studies learning with an adventure into the ancient world! 🏺

To spark curiosity about their upcoming unit on the Ancient Maya, students stepped into the role of archaeologists and got hands-on by digging for artifacts. Dressed for the job and ready to explore, our young archaeologists searched, discovered, and made connections that will help bring their learning to life!

What better way to begin a new unit than by becoming part of the story? Our students were fully immersed in this engaging experience as they uncovered clues from the past and prepared to learn more about the fascinating civilization of the Ancient Maya!

We love seeing our students dig deeper, ask questions, and discover new things! 🌎

This week in Ms. Simon’s first grade class, her students have been practicing shared reading as they work together to become stronger and more confident readers!

Students are taking turns reading, listening to their classmates, and using strategies to help make sense of the text.

Shared reading gives students the opportunity to learn from one another while building fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and confidence.

We love seeing our first graders encourage each other and discover the joy of reading together!

Keep reaching new heights, Wooster Summit! ⛰️📖
