Our 7th-grade scientists have been “Working 9 to 5” as they explored physical and chemical changes! In a lab, they used vinegar and baking soda to blow up a balloon! When the two substances reacted, they produced carbon dioxide gas, which filled the balloon. It was a fun way to see evidence of a chemical change in action! On Dolly Day, students rotated through nine stations, classified each change, and used evidence to support their thinking. Learning science is always more fun with a little Dolly-inspired sparkle! 🧫🧪

GMS will be standing with Kash's family on Monday by wearing our blue or orange too!! Kash's brother is a 6th grader here at GMS and we want to support them all during this time!

MONDAY WEAR YOUR ORANGE OR BLUE
As many of you may have heard by now or seen on our school page, one of our students has been out sick for the last 2 weeks. His name is Kash and he is a special part of our School Family.
He was diagnosed with Leukemia at a young age and has been in remission but unfortunately his cancer has come back. He was transported to City of Hope Hospital in Los Angeles, CA today where he will begin treatment soon.
Monday is Kash’s 4th birthday. To show our support for him, we are asking all students to wear his favorite colors ORANGE or BLUE. September also happens to be Leukemia Awareness month and the ribbon color is orange. 🧡🎗️💙

We got our students involved today as we celebrated Dolly Parton by having a school wide time for DEAR (Drop Everything And Read). All staff and students participated with a book in their hands!!

Most of us know Dolly for her music, but did you know she has also made a HUGE impact on literacy?

In 1995, Dolly started the Imagination Library because her own father never had the opportunity to learn to read or write. What started by giving books to children in her hometown in Tennessee has now grown across five countries.

Today, the Imagination Library sends more than 3 million FREE books every single month to children from birth to age five. In fact, since the program began, more than 300 million books have been gifted to children around the world!

Dolly believed that putting books into the hands of children could help them dream bigger and create opportunities for their futures.

So today, as we celebrated Dolly, we also celebrated something she spent decades supporting: the power of building strong readers!!
