Truly honored to kick off the 2018-2019 school year by giving a welcome back speech to all of the district's teachers, staff, and administrators. Best of luck on a new school year!

Today I was honored to attend a community focus group on social and emotional learning at my alma mater, River Dell High School, before heading to the polls to cast my vote. Make sure you get out to vote! Your schools depend on it!

I was honored to attend the 4th annual New Jersey School Boards Association STEAM conference at the NASA Goddard space center! I got a chance to meet with top engineers from NASA in almost every field to discuss how to better instill STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) into all aspects of our education. In addition, I got a chance to see the creation of NASA's James Webb Space Telescope before it's sent into space next year. So cool! I look forward on reporting on my ventures to the board at the next meeting!

I was completely blown away seeing how many students, teachers, parents, and families attended last night's Night of Music, celebrating International Day. We heard some amazing pieces from Ireland, Croatia, Korea, Mexico, Lebanon, and more, all performed by local professional musicians. It was truly incredible to watch the River Edge community support music and arts education, as all proceeds from the event go to the music department for both Roosevelt and Cherry Hill schools. I hope this is the first of many "Nights of Music." I would like to thank the musicians and both PTOs for an amazing program, and I want to thank everyone for coming out on a busy Monday night to support our music program.

Thank you River Edge! With 975 votes and counting, I feel honored to be able to represent you as a member of the Board of Education for a full, 3-year term. I look forward to working with my fellow board members on tackling the issues facing our school system both now and in the future.

Hi! My name is Caleb Herbst, and I am running for a seat on the River Edge Board of Education. I was born and raised in River Edge, where I attended Roosevelt Elementary School and River Dell Middle School. I was an honors student at River Dell High School, where I served as a student representative on the River Dell Board of Education and a section leader in the River Dell Marching Band. My platform for our district includes strengthening education in technology for our students, and bettering the Board's community outreach.
