1. Thanks to everyone who contributed to this year’s Cherokee Stomp! The event raised over $6,000 for the school. Funds can be used for student incentives, classroom materials, and/or school-wide events & projects.

2. Our next home football game (Oct. 23) is this year’s pink-out game! School pink-out shirts are available for order. You can find the details for ordering on our school website and page. The online store closes this Wednesday, Oct. 14. We are encouraging students and staff to wear something pink each day next week.

3. This Thursday, Oct. 15, high school seniors will take the ACT here at school. Testing will begin at 8 AM and will end around noon. High school seniors are permitted to leave school once they finish their test.

4. High school seniors will have a class meeting this Wednesday, Oct. 14 during breakfast break to discuss ACT testing day routines and procedures. Seniors need to be present for this meeting.

5. Report cards for Term 1 will be sent home with students this Thursday, Oct. 15. For parents with children in grades 2-12, you can always view your child’s academic progress in Skyward once you create your own Skyward parent account. Call the main office for assistance in setting up your Skyward access.

6. Fall picture retakes and remakes are this Friday, Oct. 16. This is for students who missed the previous fall picture day and/or those who want to have their picture retaken.

7. Parents and guardians, we are making progress with our school-wide attendance! Our school has spent a lot of time in recent years having the worst attendance rate among all other Loudon County schools. However, the last district report shows that GBS is solidly in the middle of the pack! We don’t have the best attendance record, but we are no longer in last place. Please continue to help with this effort. School attendance is important for all students, no matter the age or grade.

8. We ask that you do NOT pick your child up through the office after 2:30 in the afternoon. If you need to sign your child out early, please make plans to do that BEFORE 2:30 PM. Thank you for your help with this.

CALL IF YOU CAN. TEXT IF YOU CANNOT.

Did you know that Text-to-911 is available in Loudon County?

In an emergency, calling 911 is always the preferred and fastest way to reach emergency services. However, we understand that there are situations when making a phone call simply isn't possible. That’s where Text-to-911 can help.

Texting 911 may be an option if you are in a situation where it is unsafe to speak, you are unable to make a voice call, you have a hearing or speech impairment, a voice call cannot be completed, but you have access to text messaging.

When texting 911, remember to provide your location, a brief description of the emergency, and any other important information. Stay with the conversation and answer the dispatcher’s questions as clearly as possible.

A few important things to remember:
• Text 911 only in an emergency.
• Call 911 if you can. Text 911 if you cannot.
• Text-to-911 is not intended for general questions, complaints, or non-emergency situations.
• Do not assume your text was received until you receive a response.
• If you are able to safely make a voice call, please call instead.

Our partners at Loudon County E-911 work around the clock to answer emergency calls and texts and get the appropriate help where it is needed.

For non-emergency matters, please call Loudon County E-911 Dispatch at 865-458-9081.

Please save this number in your phone and share this information with your family and friends. Knowing the difference between when to call 911, when to text 911, and when to use the non-emergency line can help ensure emergency resources are available when they are needed most.
