Dear Parents,
Welcome to seminary! For some of you this is nothing new, but for others this may be a brand new experience. I will try and send an email out occasionally to keep you posted of what we are doing in class, some principles or questions you could discuss with your student, and some announcements you might want to be aware of. My number is at the bottom, feel free to save it, and reach out with any questions you have.

1st – If you have social media, we have a page. I update this occasionally of items that are going on in class. The title of the page is “Green River WYO LDS Seminary”
2nd- We will do quite a few activities with the seminary. I am a firm believer that quality activities are vital to youth. The church has given our seminary budget to host and support these events. Some events will be ‘send your kid’ types of activities that don’t require budget like volleyball, or ultimate frisbee. Other activities will be “send your kid, and I could use some help to make this work’ type. These might include helping make soup for our semi-monthly “Soup Day” or helping make a Christmas treat for our annual “Dessert Day”. Any help offered helps us reduce our budget per activity, thus allowing us more activities to bless the youth.
3rd- I have encouraged each student to work towards graduating seminary. The church has updated the requirements this year for those interested in working towards that.
The requirements are as follows:
1. Students will need 75% attendance in seminary. This includes parent or school excused absences. If a student misses a significant number of days due to sports or medical reasons that brings them below the 75% threshold, I will reach out to them with ways they can make those days up. Make-up work is not difficult; the goal is to try and recreate the classroom experience the best we can.
a. Students will need to perform make up work for EACH unexcused absence, even if above the 75% threshold. Example- ditching class when a substitute is teaching. I will track these days, and they will need to be made up if seminary graduation is desired.
2. Take and pass a 1x a semester assessment. This will be taken as a group/classroom.
3. Read the required reading sections for each semester. This consists of 15 or so chapters chosen by the church that they feel are most important for teenagers to study. These will be recorded on the students gradecard.

Now that we are through the housekeeping. Here are a few brief principles to discuss with your student.
1. In what ways are magnets like temptations? What help does God promise to send us as we encounter temptations?
2. How do we respond when we are presented with a ‘puzzle piece’ that does not seem to fit in our image of the gospel puzzle?
3. Why does Paul refer to our bodies as ‘temples’?
