We had Basic First-Aid with Explorer Post 987! We focused on how to properly remove gloves without getting the shaving cream and oil with red dye on themselves or their partners. The shaving cream and oil was to simulate blood on their hands.

After, we worked on how to utilize tourniquets and how to properly carry others in order to help those who are injured.

We ended the night with some PT. Our team is growing and we will continue to learn together.

This past weekend, Explorer Post 987 traveled to Sumter County to participate in the September Delegates training with the Florida Sheriffs Explorer Association.

During the training, our explorers had the opportunity to work on crime scene investigation, crisis intervention, conflict scenarios, and learned how to properly address severe hemorrhaging.

They also got to use the simulator to respond to an active shooter situation and an irate driver, giving them the opportunity to experience situations they may encounter in the future.

It was a wonderful weekend full of learning, training, and new experiences for all of our explorers! They ended the training day with a wonderful banquet and a friendly game of dodgeball with explorers from agencies across the state.

A huge thank you to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office for hosting us and providing our Explorers with another great training opportunity! We truly appreciate everything you do for our explorers!

This past Monday, September 21, our Explorers practiced building searches and searching a stairwell. These are important skills for our Explorers to learn and understand as they continue getting hands-on experience in law enforcement. We followed up with some PT to end our night.

We have had many new faces join our group recently, and we are always excited to welcome new Explorers who have a desire to learn more about law enforcement and see what it’s all about!

We’re looking forward to continuing to learn, train, and grow together! We are so proud of these kids!

On Monday, September 14, 2026, our Explorers had the opportunity to get an exclusive tour of CCSO Headquarters in Green Cove Springs!

They got to see what happens behind the scenes at CCSO, including stopping by the Crime Scene Unit, learning about the different operations that take place throughout the agency, and visiting Dispatch to see how calls are received and handled.

It was a great opportunity for our Explorers to see the different sides of law enforcement and get a better understanding of everything that goes on behind the scenes. We are thankful to everyone that helped make this happen.

This morning, a few members of Explorer Post 987 had the opportunity to attend the 9/11 Memorial at Spring Park. It was a very solemn experience for them and a moment they will never forget.

Governor DeSantis was also present at the memorial and spoke to the crowd of first responders and community members.

May we never forget what our country went through that day, the lives that were lost, and the heroes who stepped up to serve and protect others.
Never Forget. 🇺🇸

Last night Post 987 learned how perimeters are set up and the purpose behind them. They were able to go into the courtyard and set up a perimeter, giving them a visual understanding of what a perimeter consists of.
After that, we reviewed various search patterns used to look for evidence at a crime scene. Different items were hidden throughout the gym for them to find using the search pattern they thought would be best for the space.
We love learning the different aspects of law enforcement in this post, even the parts that are not typically trained on.
We ended our training with doing a squat challenge.

Our explorers had the great opportunity to learn gun familiarization and spring basics with our training unit. We are getting our pistol team together for any upcoming shooting competitions with the Florida Sheriff’s Explorer Association. They did a great job out there!
