This past Friday we had the honor of celebrating our wonderful Explorers. We were able to promote three new Explorer Sergeants, one new Explorer Lieutenant , and one new Explorer Chief. We also recognized the Explorer with the most volunteer hours for 2025, and Explorers that have shown integrity and leadership. Three positions were also established as well: a Physical Readiness Leader, a new Explorer Chaplain and a new Explorer Secretary. Congratulations to our outstanding CCSO Explorer Post 987!!!!

Our Explorer Post 987 had the incredible opportunity to visit our State Capitol over the last couple of days. The goal was for them to learn how the laws are created that they will one day enforce. After learning about the law making process in the House of Representatives and seeing the detail of the art in the House chambers, they had the ability to debate a law inside the Senate chambers. We stood in the Supreme Court where big decisions are made, saw monuments and learned history together. We also met with FDLE/ Capitol Police and Florida Marshalls. To say the least this was a monumental experience for Post 987.

Another successful night for Explorer Post 987! After working on formation and drills, we moved into the importance of communication with a game of minefield. The object was to properly communicate to their partner of how to get through the minefield without running into an object, which would add time to their final time. They understood the importance of working together and communicating properly to get through the course. Working on the basic skills is important in order to move into further training. After,we ended by celebrating birthdays from the past quarter. (Explorer Lieutenant Franklin celebrated his birthday this past weekend by working at the Strawberry Festival all weekend with us…now that’s dedication!) (Also, please note that all items were picked up and the area was cleaned before the end of the meeting 😁)

Interviewing is one of the most important skills to have in law enforcement. At Monday’s meeting, our Explorers practiced interviewing one another and speaking in front of the group. They also learned how important it is to clearly summarize information when giving a briefing.

During our Monday night meeting, we had some Explorers who have an interest to promote, practice and be guided on various tasks, such as inspections. We also worked through scenarios of disturbances and handcuffing. In the weeks to come, we will be working on leadership, teambuilding, health/wellness challenges and much more. We are excited to see what the future has for us! Let’s go Explorer Post 987!!!

At our Monday meeting we welcomed some new members to the post. In preparation for our upcoming events at the fairgrounds, we took a trip to the Emergency Operations Center. We saw the behind the scenes of what we should expect when we are providing a safe parking experience for those attending the events.

This event is at the Fleming Island location. We still have tables available.
