Dr. Nehrkorn-Bailey and her lab's research focuses on the intricacy of adult development and aging with a specific emphasis on health promotion. Much of her work has focused on adult physical activity engagement and exploring the motivational barriers to engagement. More recently, she has studied the impact of negative views of aging, awareness of age-related change, and age stereotypes as specific barriers to physical activity.
In collaboration with Dr. Jo Morrissey, Dr. Nehrkorn-Bailey is conducting a focus group study to learn about adults' awareness of health-related changes. The anonymously-recorded responses from participants will be analyzed and coded to create a new questionnaire that assesses awareness of health, health behaviors, and health changes in middle and older adulthood, which is a gap in the current literature. Students will play a crucial role in coding participants' responses and contributing to this new questionnaire.
For the Fall 2026 semester, the HAP Lab will meet weekly. Students are required to attend this weekly meeting. Along with attending the weekly meeting, students are expected to be present for 6 hours throughout the week to work on PSYCH 492-related work. Lab hours will be set up around students' schedules. Students may have the opportunity to contribute to and present at regional and national conferences, as well as work on manuscripts to submit for publication in scientific journals.
Minimum Qualifications:
πGPA of at least 3.0
πAvailable for a weekly meeting and for 6 additional hours per week
Preferred Qualifications:
πPsychology major
πCommitment to at least 2 semesters in the lab
