The University of Wisconsin - Green Bay Dietetic Internship is a 37 week program with a concentration in leadership. Interns complete supervised practice experiences in a variety of facilities in the Green Bay, Fox Cities and surrounding areas. This full-time Dietetic Internship Program, established in 1994, provides 1200 hours of practice experiences. Interns gain experiences in all areas of diet
etic practice: medical nutrition therapy, food service and community nutrition. Practice facilities include six regional referral hospitals in Green Bay, Appleton, Fond du Lac and Neenah, several long-term care facilities, college cafeterias, public school food service, community hospitals, community health clinics, Native American health centers, and the UW-Cooperative Extension Agencies, city public health departments, food pantries and area schools. Problem solving, leadership, critical thinking, public speaking, collaboration, time management, writing and interpersonal skills are highly emphasized during this internship. Plan and implement nutrition care in a variety of settings. The program consists of approximately 32 hours of weekly supervised practice experiences (Monday thru Thursday), occasional weekends, plus six hours of didactic instruction and project management on Fridays. The program typically starts late August and is completed by the end of the following May. Vacation is normally scheduled over the winter holidays. Successful completion of the Dietetic Internship will result in receipt of a Dietetic Internship verification statement and eligibility to take the Registered Dietitian (RD) exam administered by the Commission of Dietetic Registration (CDR). Upon obtaining the RD, former interns are directed to seek appropriate licensure/certification in the state where employed. Dietitians working in Wisconsin are eligible to become a certified dietitian (CD) upon successful completion of the RD exam.
