Happy New Year Classmates!
I would like to share this opportunity for all of us to give back to Green Bay East directly in a big way, as there looms a large budget crisis in the school district. Green Bay Area Public Schools are facing a projected $36 million budget deficit. The district's chief financial officer says inflation, the state's school funding freeze, increasing staff and declining enrollment all are contributing factors.
Lucida Roberts, Green Bay East Fine Arts Coordinator, has reached out to me directly and asked for my personal donation. I was happy to donate a one-time, tax-deductible gift of $500 directly to the Fine Arts Program Endowment Fund. Lucinda’s Goal is $10,000 for this drive, which would help them meet the endowment fund total of $100,000. Once that total is reached, the money can be “protected” for Fine Arts programs at East High. I got to thinking, “what if I could get 20 more of my Classmates from the Class of 1978 to do the same?” If you can’t give $500…. give $50 or $5…any amount is appreciated.
Well, here it is. For those of you who want to make difference and give back to our school, this is a great opportunity to do so. So many of us have benefited from our experiences at Green Bay East in the past; particularly though Band, Chorus, and Theater Arts. Unfortunately, a good deal of students at East today do not have the financial or family support that we had back in the day. Our gifts make a difference in the lives of students who often are unable to participate. I look forward to hearing what people think about my challenge. More so, I look forward to having great representation from the Class of 1978! To give our class visibility, put in the memo field, “Class of 1978 Challenge”. Go Red Devils!!!
