Where can an NWTC degree take you? For Karlie DeGrave, it was the next step toward a bachelor’s degree and a career in the legal field.

After earning her Justice and Community Advocacy associate degree in 2024, Karlie transferred to Lakeland University - WI, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 2026 — all while working full time as a litigation paralegal at an Appleton area law firm. ⚖️

Yesterday was an incredible day of welding and supporting the future of manufacturing and skilled trades at the NWTC Marinette Welding Rodeo! 🔥

It's truly amazing how pieces of scrap metal can turn into beautiful works of art in just 8 hours!

The competition was fierce, and the level of craftsmanship on display was outstanding. Here are the results from the competition for both the amateur teams and professional teams:

Amateur
🥇 1st Place: Marinette High School with "OSHA Violation"
🥈 2nd Place: Menominee High School and Stephenson High School with "Back the Red and Blue"
🥉 3rd Place: Oconto High School with "Cycle of Life"
🔥 Peshtigo High School with "Rebirth"

Professional
🥇 1st Place: Samuel Pressure Vessel Group with "The Welding Dead"
🥈 2nd Place: Fincantieri Marinette Marine with "Hometown Pride"
🥉 3rd Place: Johnson Controls with "The Hot Seat"
🔥 Silverfox Welding and Fab with "Spirit of the Fox"

Thank you to everyone who participated in this year's Welding Rodeo! Huge thank you to our sponsors and everyone who placed bids on these sculptures. Because of you, we raised approximately $6,000 to support welding students as they build the skills that will power our region's workforce and help meet the growing needs of local industries, including shipbuilding.
