Gaining hands on experience practicing skills physical therapists use in the acute care setting is key while in DPT school. Last week our 3rd year DPT students focused on monitoring lines and tubes as part of their Physical Therapy Management of Complex Patients course.

While they have been exposed to managing lines and tubes earlier in the curriculum and during clinical rotations, they were able to use the Bellin College simulation labs to get the "full experience" as well as get "more reps" with these skills. Being able to manage the patient's bed, IV lines/pole, catheter, etc. all play into doing the basics - like transfers and ambulation - well.

This past weekend we held our Advanced Lower Quarter Techniques course in Phoenix, AZ. Tim Fearon led the course with a special visit from Cheri Hodges on Saturday. It is rare to get instruction from two experienced clinicians with both having well over 30 years of experience in treating people with MSK conditions.

A hallmark of this course, along with our other courses, is that we use participant input to guide how the course will play out. We are less rigid in our schedule and make time to cater the learning to what the people want. Course feedback consistently states how valuable this is and this course is no exception.

Thanks to all the fellows-in-training, PTs from MN, and Waits PTs who attended the course.

Huge thank you to Daren Mazier and Solventum Medical for assisting with the Management of Integumentary and Lymphatic Conditions today. Daren and Solventum provided wound vacs and supplies allowing our DPT students to learn the skills to use this modality to manage wounds.

Our awesome 3rd year DPT students did falls assessments at both Curative Connections locations in Green Bay as part of their geriatrics coursework.

They learned how to work with older adults with varying cognitive and physical abilities. Shout out to Curative Connections for allowing us to bring the classroom to the clinic.

👀 Interesting case series from OMPT fellowship graduate, Dr. Dave Grams ⬇️ ⬇️

Dave teamed up with Dr. Louie Puentedura for this case series describing 2 patient cases who presented with MSK complaints, but after assessment, were found to not have features consistent with a MSK condition.

Check out the decision-making used in these cases. Shout out to Dave and Louie for showcasing their clinical reasoning through these cases.
