The Green Bay Area Public School District is thrilled to contribute to our community by providing the next series of Community Enrichment Classes! Each attendee is asked to sign up for one class during this session, as to allow space for as many participants as possible.

The Green Bay Area Public School District is set to host the following meeting regarding the 2026-27 budget:

🔵 October 26, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. – Public Hearing. Immediately after the hearing, the Board of Education will hold their regular board meeting, at which they will hold a vote on the budget and tax levy.

Community members can provide input to the Board of Education regarding the budget by speaking at the Public Hearing on October 26, 2026. If members of the public have questions about speaking before the Board of Education, please see information regarding speaking at public meetings: https://bit.ly/47y5JoN

Starr Elementary School opened its doors to the public on Thursday, October 15, 2026, for a community open house. The community got to enjoy a self-guided tour and explore the school from 4:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. ✨

Thanks to community support for the November 2024 Referendum, the Green Bay Area Public School District constructed a new school to serve more than 500 students in Early Childhood through 5th grade and which now serves the previous attendance areas of Keller Elementary, Kennedy Elementary, and the majority of MacArthur Elementary, creating greater operational and facility efficiencies.

Our October 2026 Volunteers of the Month are Brenda Aerts and Linda Farley! They helped transform the library at Baird Elementary School for this 26-27 school year.

These dedicated volunteers contributed more than 100 hours this summer and have continued their support since the start of the school year, volunteering 30–40 hours each week. Together, they organized books and created student-friendly topic areas, face-out book displays, and more. They continue to help with bulletin boards, checking books in and out, shelving books and purchasing needed items for the library.

Baird staff say their creativity, dedication and willingness to turn ideas into reality has made an incredible difference in the Baird library and school community. Their hard work has helped create a welcoming, organized and engaging space that students and staff are excited and proud to enjoy.

Thank you Brenda and Linda for supporting our students and staff at Baird Elementary. We appreciate you! 💙

In 1924, the Green Bay Area Public School District constructed the existing Green Bay East High School at 1415 East Walnut Street. The East River was originally called the Devils River, which most likely explains the school’s mascot, the Red Devils. The former East High School was converted into a junior high and remained in use until construction of the current Washington Middle School in 1939.

The current East High School was built on Hagemeister Park, where the Green Bay Packers once played. By 1925, the Packers moved next door to City Stadium, built specifically for them. City Stadium remained the Packers’ home until 1957.

Today, East High School offers students extensive programming options, including the Fine Arts Institute at East High and City Stadium AutomotiveⓇ. City Stadium continues to be a historic site and is now part of the Green Bay Area Public School District.

Starr Elementary School celebrated its inaugural school year on October 14, 2026, with a ceremonial ribbon cutting outside the school. Students, staff, District leaders, project partners, and more gathered for the event. Bart Starr Jr. spoke on behalf of the Starr family and expressed what an honor it is to have a school named for his family.

“This is absolutely a thrilling and humbling day,” Starr said. My parents would be honored beyond belief to have their name on this amazing facility.”

Community members are welcome to see Starr Elementary School for themselves on October 15, 2026, from 4:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. for a public open house.

Congratulations to the Green Bay Area Public School District Hall of Fame Class of 2026! Eight alumni and one former educator were inducted into the GBAPS Hall of Fame on October 9, 2026, at the Hotel Northland.

This was the second class inducted into the GBAPS Hall of Fame and the first to include a former educator. Preble alumnus, WLUK-TV FOX 11's Ben Krumholz served as the evening's Master of Ceremonies.

Inducted into the Class of 2026 were:

❤️ Cheryl Renier-Wigg – Green Bay East High School, Class of 1982
🐝 John Hawley – Green Bay Preble High School, Class of 1975

While the 2026 Operational Referendum is about needed revenue, it is important to focus on the why. GBAPS has also developed an instructional-vision, which is an intentional effort to improve academic outcomes.

Over the summer, UnboundEd presented GBAPS with its 2026 GLEAM Instruction Showcase Award, recognizing the District's sustained, system-wide commitment to grade-level, engaging, affirming, and meaningful instruction. To maintain these efforts, it is important that the District is able to provide meaningful professional development, retain its highly qualified staff, and maintain reasonable class sizes.
