Executive Summary
STEAMVE$TMENTS is a bold, culturally responsive financial literacy program designed to empower youth and families with financial knowledge, career foresight, and wealth-building strategies. With financial literacy now a graduation requirement in states like Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, this program arrives at a critical time. The inaugural 4-day summer camp will engage grades 6–12 (with parallel tracks for young adults and adults) in real-world financial education, leadership development, and intergenerational wealth building.
Need Statement
Despite widespread financial fragility, most American high schools still fail to provide adequate Financial Literacy (FL) education. The U.S. holds over $22 trillion in debt, including nearly $2 trillion in student loans. Black and Brown youth face the added challenge of systemic barriers to wealth-building opportunities. FL is now a graduation requirement in many states including but not limited to PA, WI, FL, OH, NC, GA, TN, VA, TX, NE, MI, AL, ID, MO, MS, SC, UT and others. While 23 states now require FL courses, the content is often disconnected from students' lived experiences. STEAMVE$TMENTS bridges this gap by centering equity, culture, and empowerment in financial education.
Closing Appeal
STEAMVE$TMENTS is more than financial literacy—it is about liberation, imagination, and equity. We invite funders and sponsors to join us in transforming financial education into a movement that builds capital, builds wealth, and builds stronger communities.
