This beautiful Northern Wisconsin Musky was the second of two over 45" on the day. The bite was savage, and she sent my last Team Rhino Outdoors Custom Winnipeg Walleye Double Pitbull to Valhalla.

When snapping rubber, especially through or over weeds, using a 9" or 12" wire leader like the nearly indestructible Roswell Leader from Pandemonium Tackle greatly increases your ability to cut through cabbage and trigger bites, helping you make the most of your cast. Highly recommend!

This Season was fantastic for both quality and quantity on walleyes. "Team Merk's" was rewarded for battling the heavy winds and blowing snow on this half day evening walleye trip. The first fish of the day was this 28" Trophy for 13 year old Will! We landed several nice walleyes including a 25 and this 28, several nice pike and about 70-80 panfish. The big walleyes were released and they took home a very nice fish fry! We had 20 plus flags on the day and Will ran to every single one 😂. New Wisconsin State Record Musky, Live Release Division. This 56 x 26 had the build and the beauty that truly made her one of those fish we all dream about. The Catch and Release State Records for Wisconsin has not been widely publicized, but I think it's a great program that promotes the right mindset for the sport of fishing in the modern era. Hopefully this fish will help it gain traction! This is the second longest fish in my boat and the sixth fish between 55 and 56.25 in the past 3 years. Larger fish have been and will be caught, but I told myself if I ever got another really big one, I would register it. This one was a little extra special!

The fishing had been tough and we had one good weather/ Moon window to work with for the 3 days allocated for the trip. The window opened with my customer Mike having a hot follow from a 4-footer. I was asking him how close the fish was to his bait and he was describing how she was almost in the skirt of his bucktail. Mid-sentence, I was stopped cold by a rock solid bite. We managed to put her in the boat without incident. A few casts later, Mike also landed a 46. An entire day, and the better part of a week, distilled down into 25 to 30 minutes of absolute Power Window Chaos. The full video and description of the conditions that led up to the catch will be available in the next round of Musky Academy videos and will be discussed in my Seminars this Winter/Spring.

Muskie Expo Chicago This Weekend! I will be giving a Seminar at 4pm Saturday January 18!

"All it takes is one bite" This XXL 55.75 was the first of two muskies over 55 in the bag for the day and is my new Personal Best for length! She chowed a Pandemonium Tackle Marvin 80 prototype and the story leading up to the catch is almost as good as the catch itself! We pulled a page straight out of the Musky Academy handbook for tough conditions and it paid off in a huge way! All of the details on this day and many other highlights on the best patterns, baits and bites of 2024 will be included in my Seminar this Saturday, January 18 at 4pm at the Muskie Expo Chicago !

Karl and his father Steve first shared a boat with me in 2010. Karl was about 12 or 13 years old at the time. One of the highlights of the 2024 Season was Larry Smith Outdoors landing this Giant 54" Musky, his new Personal Best! The excitement levels were off the charts! We landed several other nice muskies and I learned a new "scent technique" for giant muskies.
