It's a lot easier to love (or tolerate) winter when you've got the right clothing and tools for the job. Hope everyone stays warm and safe in the coming months.

Earlier this month I got to introduce Land Scouting to freshman biology students at Providence Academy in Green Bay. We bound field books and got started with some observational drawing.
Remember the weird angular S everyone learned to draw in middle school? There's something very satisfying about formulaic drawing. For example, a compass rose. Today I got to talk to 200 campers at SNC's GLAD camp about art, Land Scouting, and the importance of critical feedback from a good team. We also got started on field books. They were one of the best audiences I've ever had. Thanks to GLAD Camp for the opportunity!
Wisconsinites, I'm planning for fall events...seed swaps, field book binding, and foraging walks. Details soon.

We scouted around Bay Shore County Park yesterday and it was great! Grateful to the people whose foresight created our wonderful public park system. You can be a Land Scout in an entirely urban area, but there's nothing like slipping into a forest and wandering in that light. A bonus: the forest in this park descends to a public beach on the bay side.

Here are some of the things growing in my garden in late July/early August. What are you finding where you live? What's coming up in your garden? Want to trade seeds?
