Lead and other toxic chemicals might have continued to be a normal part of daily life if not for the work of Dr. Alice Hamilton. A tireless advocate, her research into the health effects of lead exposure helped create policy to reduce workplace exposure to chemicals and pioneered the field of industrial toxicology.
