This article suggests that most university admission strategies, metaphorically speaking, cast a particular type of net year after year, with modest adjustments, and catch particular type of student. Periodically, another species is snared but generally not by design. This article seems to suggest that new strategies require top-down, bottom-up, and laterally developed initiatives. Failure to adjust to the multi-X students is problematic for the fiscal well-being of institutions and ethically problematic when the appropriate systems are not in place creating high failure rates, especially among underrepresented ethnic groups.
