Join us next Monday, March 6th at 3:30 in MAC 210, for the HUB Seminar! Two UWGB Alumni, Noah Koenigs and Nikki Messick, will be talking about their post-grad research experiences! For this great opportunity for students considering research, Tribeta will also be providing pizza!
Noah Koenigs is a 3rd year PhD candidate at the Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program at Ohio State University. Noah is a 2022 UWGB graduate studying human natural killer (NK) cell development using state-of-the-art flow cytometry techniques paired with molecular approaches.
Nikki Messick is a research intern at the Human Oncology Department at UW-Madison. Nikki is a 2024 UWGB graduate working in the Human Oncology department at UW-Madison researching centrosome amplification and radiation sensitivity and how it could be used to personalize cancer therapy.

The Human Biology and Nutritional Science Departments are co-collaborating for the first Seminar of the year, Monday, February 9, 2026 at 12:45 to 2:15 pm in MAC 210! Guest speaker Dr. Ahmed El-Sohemy, PhD is a Professor and Associate Chair at the University of Toronto – Nutrition Sciences Department. He specializes in using genetic testing to create personalized nutrition plans! 🥗Description of Presentation:
There is increasing awareness among researchers, educators, healthcare professionals and consumers that the one-size-fits-all, population-based approach to nutritional guidance is inefficient and sometimes ineffective. Genetic differences can explain individual differences in response to various dietary factors and randomized controlled trials show that DNA-based dietary recommendations can improve compliance. With increasing awareness and demand for genetic testing, there is a need for healthcare professionals to have sufficient knowledge to understand and determine the benefits and limitations of the science and testing. 🥗Learning Objectives:
· Understand how genetic variation impacts nutritional requirements.
· Learn how to identify relevant genetic markers with clinical relevance.
· Recognize the benefits and limitations of consumer genetic testing and understand what genetic tests can and cannot reveal about a person’s health and dietary recommendations.
