• September 2, 2026 – First day of Fall Semester classes.

To our returning students, enjoy these last few weeks of summer; you’ve earned them! And to our newest Phoenix nurses coming in the spring, we can’t wait to welcome you to the program!

Acceptance letters for our Spring 2027 BSN cohort were sent out last week!

Congratulations to our newest future nurses! Your hard work, determination, and dedication have led you to this incredible milestone, and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome you to the UW-Green Bay Nursing family.

Over the next five semesters, you’ll build the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to make a meaningful difference in the lives of your future patients. We can’t wait to watch you grow on your journey toward becoming the graduating UW-Green Bay Nursing Class of 2029!

After 4 years in the Air Force as a firefighter/EMT I knew I wanted to go into healthcare. I graduated with my BSN from UWGB in 2006. Over the next several years I was challenged and mentored to get in leadership roles at Bellin Hospital (Emplify Health). UWGB was starting the MSN in Healthcare Leadership and Management, and I was proud to be a part of the first graduating class in 2015.

During the MSN program I was aligned with leadership mentors that eased the transition from staff nurse to Leadership roles. Over the next several years I took on Team Leader positions in multiple departments with the biggest challenge being to lead the ICU during the pandemic and managing the Community Covid Vaccination Clinic at Lambeau Field where our team vaccinated nearly 100,000 people. Soon after I was promoted to my current position as Director of Specialty Practices and am currently located at the new Surgery and Specialty Center in Green Bay.

The UWGB MSN program was instrumental to helping me prepare for my leadership roles. I enjoy being a mentor to current students as I understand the impact a solid and consistent mentorship can provide an individual. The career opportunities that can arise from a leader and mentor working together is beneficial to an organization, the leader and the student. I appreciate the work the UWGB MSN staff does prepare its students for continued career success. Jason Mattson

Hello! I’m McKenna, and I’m originally from Wittenberg, Wisconsin. I completed my undergraduate degree in Nursing at UW–Green Bay and am currently in the MSN program here at UWGB. I also had the opportunity to compete as a collegiate swimmer and serve as a team captain. Swimming has always been a huge passion of mine, and I love being actively involved in building team culture, supporting my teammates, and leading both in and out of the pool. Currently, I am doing my 5th year on the team and compete in my last ever collegiate meet this February!

During my undergraduate degree, I was introduced to nursing research through a project focused on nursing burnout. That experience sparked my interest in research and opened my eyes to how impactful nursing research can be in improving patient outcomes behind the scenes. I was able to be our senior cohort's student representative, involved in Student Nurses Association (SNA), and present research at the Rotunda in Madison. With these experiences and the support of the UWGB nursing department, I continued my education and began the MSN program following my BSN.

As a Graduate Assistant, I’ve had the opportunity to be involved in nursing research while also working closely with undergraduate nursing students both by tutoring and helping in skills labs. These experiences have helped me grow as both a nurse and a leader. I’m incredibly grateful for the UWGB Nursing Department and all of the mentors who continue to support my growth as a nurse and leader.

Notably it also mentions our impactful partnership with HEAR Wisconsin and the expansion of our amazing partnership with University of Wisconsin-Green Bay (UWGB) nursing program to include hearing screenings!

On Wednesday April 3, 2024, Dr. Christine Vandenhouten PhD, RN, Professor and Director of the Nursing program, was part of a panel discussing Pandemic Preparedness generally and the response to the COVID pandemic specifically. The presentation/panel discussion is part of the Great Decisions Lecture Series which engages scholars on today’s most pressing global topics.
