Please help us in showing support to our Elders by wearing purple with us on Monday, June 15th! 💜
06/01/2026
June is both Pride Month and National Indigenous History Month.
Long before colonization, before borders, and before the imposition of European gender roles and sexuality, Two Spirit and IndiQueer people existed within our Nations. Our ancestors held diverse understandings of gender, identity, relationships, and community responsibilities. Two Spirit people were not new, hidden, or created by modern movements—they have been here since time immemorial.
The violence of colonization sought to erase these teachings through residential schools, Christianization, and laws that attempted to regulate who Indigenous people could be. Yet despite these efforts, our people survived. Our languages, ceremonies, stories, and identities continue to carry the knowledge that gender diversity and q***r Indigenous existence have always been part of our communities.
As we recognize both Pride Month and National Indigenous History Month, we honour the Two Spirit and IndiQueer ancestors who came before us, those who fought to keep these teachings alive, and those who continue to reclaim them today.
Our existence is not a trend. It is not a debate. It is not a modern invention.
We have always been here.
This month, we celebrate the strength, resilience, joy, and sacred presence of Two Spirit and IndiQueer people across Turtle Island. May we continue to reclaim what was never lost—only interrupted—and create spaces where future generations can live openly, safely, and proudly as who they are.

June is Pride Month.
Across many Tribal Nations, Two-Spirit people have long held important roles within their communities, contributing to cultural knowledge, leadership, caregiving, and community well-being. While experiences and traditions vary among Tribal Nations, Two-Spirit people have been an important part of Native communities throughout history.
This month, we celebrate the Two-Spirit, LGBTQ+, and Indigiq***r students, educators, leaders, and community members whose voices, experiences, and contributions continue to strengthen Native education and Native communities.
At NIEA, we believe every Native student deserves access to learning environments where they feel valued, respected, supported, and empowered to succeed. We recognize that creating strong educational opportunities means ensuring all students have the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive as their authentic selves.
As we celebrate Pride Month, we honor the diversity of Tribal Nations and Native communities and reaffirm our commitment to advancing educational opportunities that support the success of all Native learners.

June is Pride Month, a time to honor, uplift, and protect our Native LGBTQ2S+ relatives while reaffirming our shared responsibility to build safe, healthy, and violence-free communities.
This year, CSVANW’s Pride movement, Protect Our Relatives: Pride is Community Care, centers Native LGBTQ2S+ youth, elders, advocates, survivors, artists, and community leaders through storytelling, education, advocacy, and collective healing.
At a time when trans, non-binary, and Two Spirit relatives continue to face violence, discrimination, and harmful rhetoric, we choose visibility, affirmation, safety, and community care.
Throughout June, we will share educational resources, storytelling, and community-centered engagement that uplift Native LGBTQ2S+ voices and encourage affirming, respectful, and supportive communities.
Pride is more than visibility, it is a collective responsibility and the ongoing work of protecting our relatives today and for future generations.
Join us by amplifying Native LGBTQ2S+ voices, respecting identities and pronouns, supporting affirming spaces, and helping build violence-free communities rooted in care and belonging.
