The WCSD6 Board of Education recognizes that students need to be physically active and eat nourishing food to grow, learn, and maintain healthy physical and mental development. It further recognizes that a significant body of research indicates a positive correlation with optimal health, learning, and academic success. Mission:
To improve the health of students and families. This mission will be accomplished through education, environmental changes, and opportunities to establish life-long healthy nutrition and physical activity habits. Overarching Goals:

1. The district will provide a comprehensive learning environment for developing and practicing lifelong wellness behaviors.

2. The district will support and promote proper dietary habits contributing to students' health status and academic performance.

3. The district will provide opportunities for students to engage in physical activity.

Three District 6 schools have been named among America’s Healthiest Schools 2026 by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation!

A total of 1,376 schools across 35 states and Washington D.C. were recognized this year. This national award highlights schools that are implementing best practices to support the health and wellbeing of students, staff, and families.

Schools can be recognized in the following 9 areas: supporting school health services, implementing local school wellness policy, improving nutrition & food access, bolstering physical education & activity, strengthening social-emotional health & learning, promoting tobacco-free schools, cultivating staff well-being, increasing family & community engagement, and enriching health education.

Shawsheen Elementary School was recognized in Staff Well-Being, Jefferson High School was recognized in Social-Emotional Health & Learning, and D6 Online Academy was recognized in an incredible 8 out of 9 categories! These awards are a testament to the dedication to and support for student and staff wellness at these schools and across D6. We are so proud of your achievements, congratulations!!

Ready Fest: A Family Preparedness Fair is a free, family-friendly emergency preparedness event co-hosted by Franklin Middle School and the American Red Cross.

Families are invited to join us for hands-on activities, emergency preparedness education, Hands-Only CPR, free smoke alarm sign-up information, food trucks, giveaways, and community partner resources.
This event is designed especially for Hispanic, Latinx, and Spanish-speaking communities, with bilingual support available. Bring the whole family for a fun and welcoming day focused on safety, preparedness, and community connection.

Students at Shawsheen Elementary School participated in the first ever "Culinary Classroom Blitz" in D6 history this month!

Over the first two weeks of May, every class at Shawsheen had the opportunity to participate in a Culinary Classroom lesson combining nutrition education with hands-on cooking skills. Greeley-Evans District 6 Nutrition Services staff led classes in a lesson exploring how eating all of the different food groups keeps us healthy. Students then got to practice their cooking skills by preparing their own strawberry-banana yogurt parfaits to try.

During this special event, a total of 21 classes were held, reaching 441 students!

A huge thank you goes out to D6 Nutrition Education Specialist Johanna Bishop and Shawsheen Student Wellness Team Leader and Music Teacher Emily Small for their amazing work in planning this event! Thank you as well to all other staff who helped make this a success.
