No Fun in the Sun….but we found an in between. Our AM and PM classes still had a blast

Fun in the Sun day turn into Fun in the inside day!

Summer science, ocean art and a shark obstacle course. Just a normal day in Mrs. Orr’s class.

Today was full of the kind of learning that does not even feel like learning because everyone is having way too much fun.

Tested how many bears it takes to sink a foam surfboard, crossed the bridge without getting eaten by the sharks in the ocean, made octopus using daubers and cut strips of paper for all eight legs, and stamped beautiful starfish by painting bubble wrap and pressing it down.

STEM, fine motor skills, counting and creativity all wrapped up in one big ocean adventure.

It all started with a dot.

Mrs. Pratz’s PM class dove into the wonder of art today through the beloved book The Dot, a reminder that creativity begins when you simply make your mark.

Students painted their own dot artwork using paint sticks, arranged tiles, marbles, and beads into frames, and wrapped up the afternoon with a letter bingo game.

This is what learning looks like here. Hands busy, imaginations wide open, and every child discovering the gifts they were made with.

Summer learning is officially in session and Mrs. Orr’s M/W/F class is soaking up every single second of it.

This week we are exploring summer and science and today brought out the best of both worlds.

Scooped melted ice cream and sprinkles into cones at the sensory bins, glued black beans onto watermelons for the seeds, counted out scoops of ice cream onto numbered cones to practice their math skills, and wrapped up the day watching a video about solids, liquids and gases.

Turns out melting ice cream is the perfect way to kick off a science lesson.

These kids are stepping into summer ready, curious and full of joy. We love this class so much.

If you ever want to see a room full of preschoolers completely in their element, just hand them a net, a magnet puzzle, and a bin full of dirt. That’s exactly what Mrs. Pratz’s class did today, and it was everything.

As they continue exploring insects and the letter Y, today’s activities were all about getting hands-on with the learning.

They used magnetic nets to “catch” insect puzzle pieces, a clever twist on fine motor practice that had them feeling like real bug hunters. Then they worked through their letter Y worksheets with golf tees, poking holes every time they spotted the letter. Focus and fun in one.

From there, they crumpled tissue paper to make pollen and tucked it right into their very own beehives, connecting what they’re learning about bugs to how the natural world actually works. And to round out the day, it was back to the sensory bins with dirt, clamps, and scoops to dig for and collect insects.

Messy, joyful, and full of discovery. That’s learning the way it’s meant to be.
