HLC is the Higher Learning Commission, an organization that accredits universities including UNC. This accreditation is important to you because without it, your degree isn’t recognized professionally. The HLC will be at UNC in March 2015 and will be evaluating our school. While they are here, any student could be stopped and asked what HLC means to them, and the mission statement of UNC. Every university must be re-accredited every ten years. Without HLC accreditation, your degree doesn’t mean anything. The HLC won’t be here until March 2015, so physically you won’t be affected until then. However without an HLC accreditation your degree isn’t worth anything. Tell other students and spread the word! The HLC accreditation will affect all undergrad students by March 2015, so knowledge is power. Let other students know what they need to know in case they are stopped by HLC and encourage students to learn our mission statement. What does HLC evaluate? HLC will evaluate all of our programs, policies, governance and focus on student learning. What happens if we fail our accreditation? If we fail our accreditation, we will have several opportunities to fix our mistakes and regain accreditation.
