In collaboration with Student Life, TRIO students celebrated Earth Day by creating space for connection, creativity, and care for our planet and each other. Students learned the ins and outs of composting with Geoff from Common Good Compost, got creative with painting and bracelet making, shared kindness through written affirmations, and enjoyed a well-earned root beer float along the way.
To leave a lasting impact, we also planted three trees right here on campus—rooting this day in something that will continue to grow for years to come. We appreciate the help from our Facilities & Operations team. 🌳💚

We wanted to send a thank you to Carl B at Mountain States International Black Belt Academy and Gerardo, our very own TRIO student, who came to facilitate a Women’s Self Defense class for our TRIO students, this past Tuesday. Students learned practical techniques, started building confidence, and gained valuable tools to help them feel more prepared and empowered in everyday situations. We appreciate both of them for sharing their time, knowledge, and expertise with our students!

From touring campus and learning about academic programs to hearing about transfer pathways and student life, the visit gave students a chance to picture themselves taking the next step toward their goals.

Coming to college is a huge accomplishment—and for first-gen students, it can come with unique challenges. This workshop focused on moving beyond just “getting through” college and instead building a foundation to truly flourish.
We explored ways to connect with others, prevent burnout, set healthy boundaries, and define what success and well-being look like for our TRIO students at Aims.
Shoutout to Kathryn Bowker from CARE/Counseling for sharing her expertise and supporting our students! 💙

This past Friday, Aims TRIO students and staff joined TRIO programs from across Colorado at the Colorado State Capitol to celebrate the 40th Annual TRIO Day. The day centered on civic learning, advocacy in action, and elevating student voices.
National TRIO Day commemorates the achievements of Federal TRIO Programs in supporting low-income, first-generation students, and individuals with disabilities in their pursuit of higher education. Established by Congress in 1986, this day highlights the need for educational access, equity, and the transformative impact of these programs on students' lives and communities.
