Why do you need a backflow test done?

Backflow testing is required to protect public drinking water from contamination by dirty water (sewage, chemicals, bacteria) that can flow backward into the clean supply due to pressure changes, ensuring public health, meeting strict local/state regulations, and preventing waterborne illnesses, especially in systems with cross-connections like irrigation or fire sprinklers. These tests verify that backflow prevention devices, which can fail over time, are working correctly to keep potable water safe.
