GN Community Ed had the privilege of welcoming back Jess for another art session. This time she ran a class on Paper Marbling! In this three hour workshop, students discovered the basics of color mixing and pattern making step by step. By the end of the session, students moved from paper to three-dimensional surfaces, marbling a custom set of ceramic coasters to take home as their beautiful final pieces.

We are looking forward to Jess coming back for some more wonderful workshops!

Mike Smolens’s Talking Sports class had an amazing trip to Citi Field!

The group enjoyed a special tour with Chris Brown, Director of Community Relations, who spent more than an hour talking with the students and answering their questions. Additionally, Mets PR Director Jay Horwitz joined the group during the Q&A session and shared his insights and experiences.

It was an incredible day filled with memorable moments and plenty of baseball! ⚾️

Everyone had an amazing time!

GN Community Ed had the absolute privilege of welcoming another new instructor—and another talented Great Neck resident—to our staff last week!

Jessica introduced students to the beautiful craft of Kinusaiga, a traditional Japanese art form that creates faux-quilted pictures without sewing. Using a specialized tucking technique on a foam canvas, students transformed fabric remnants into stunning pieces of textured wall art.

Jessica is immensely talented, and we were thrilled to have her share this unique art form with our community. We can’t wait to see where her creativity takes us next!

Have you ever wanted to learn how to make your own sourdough bread?

Great Neck Community Ed is lucky to have our very own sourdough bread expert! We welcomed Great Neck resident Yulia to Community Ed on Friday for a fun and informative sourdough workshop.

Yulia kicked things off by explaining the science behind sourdough breadmaking, and then our lucky students got hands-on and started creating their very own sourdough starters!

We can’t wait to see what next week brings!
