Our first 5th Grade Shabbat Oneg is in the books! ✨ Rabbi Acobas shared an important lesson from Parashat Bereish*t that goes well beyond the classroom: owning up to our mistakes. When Hashem asked Adam, “Where are you?” and Kayin, “Where is your brother?” He already knew the answers. What He was giving them was an opportunity to take responsibility. A powerful reminder for our students (and all of us!) that making mistakes is part of being human. What matters is having the courage to admit them, learn from them, and do better next time.

We remember. We tell their stories. We carry their memory forward. 🇮🇱 In a meaningful and moving tekes commemorating October 7th, our Shlichot, Shira and Esther, helped our students understand a day that forever changed the Jewish people. Through personal reflections of where they were that day, stories of lives tragically lost, and the faces and names behind them, they reminded our students that history is not just something we learn about. It is something we have a responsibility to remember.

May their memories be a blessing, their stories never be forgotten, and the next generation continue to carry them forward. 🇮🇱

October 7th Tekes

Today, our Middle School came together for a meaningful October 7th Tekes, thoughtfully organized by our Bnot Sherut, Esther and Shira. As a school community, we prayed together, reflected on the events of October 7th, and highlighted the lives and stories of several individuals who were tragically lost on that day.

Through tefillah, remembrance, and learning about who these individuals were beyond their names, our students honored their memories and reflected on the strength and resilience of Am Yisrael. יהי זכרם ברוך — May their memories be a blessing.

🍋🌿 Sukkot at NSHA Middle School! 🌿🍋

What an incredible week of Sukkot celebration at North Shore Hebrew Academy Middle School!

We kicked off the week with a delicious PTA-sponsored breakfast and festive Sukkot Chagigah, bringing our students together to celebrate the Chag with food, music, and school spirit.

On Day 2, students enjoyed our annual Sukkah Hop, traveling throughout the Great Neck community and visiting the beautiful sukkot at Shaare Zion, Young Israel of Great Neck, and the Levy family home. It was a special opportunity to experience the mitzvah of Sukkah while celebrating together as a school community.

We capped off the week with an amazing trip to Sky Zone Norwalk, followed by a stop at Congregation Agudath Sholom in Stamford, where our students enjoyed a delicious lunch together in the Sukkah.

Three days filled with Torah, friendship, community, ruach, and unforgettable Sukkot memories! 💚

📚✨ 8th Grade Learn-a-thon 2026!

Our 8th graders came together for an inspiring evening of Torah, growth, friendship, and connection as they prepared for Yom Kippur at our annual Learn-a-thon.

This year’s program was especially meaningful as it was dedicated in memory of Sergeant William Zev Shakin, z”l — וויליאם זאב שאקין ז״ל. Throughout the evening, students learned with our incredible Rebbeim and Morot, shared a delicious Smash House dinner, and ended together with Arvit.

A beautiful night of learning, inspiration, and achdut as we carry William’s memory and legacy forward. 💙💛

Stepping Into a Sweet New Year with Intention! On a gorgeous day, our fourth and fifth graders took a walk down Wildwood for a meaningful Tashlich. Before heading out, each student took a moment to reflect, writing down something they hope to change, improve, or do a little better in the year ahead. At the water, they tossed their (dissolvable) papers in, a simple but powerful reminder that a new year gives us the chance to let go, begin again, and think about who we want to become. 🇺🇸 Remembering 9/11 with Jamie Lassner

Today, North Shore Middle School had the privilege of welcoming Jamie Lassner, a 9/11 first responder, for a powerful and meaningful program commemorating September 11th.

Jamie shared his firsthand experiences from the World Trade Center on 9/11, giving our students a personal perspective on a day they know only through history. His story brought to life the incredible courage, selflessness, resilience, and unity demonstrated by first responders and ordinary New Yorkers during one of our nation’s darkest moments.

Most importantly, Jamie challenged our students to understand that leadership is defined by how we respond when others need us most. His message of helping others, standing together, and turning difficult experiences into a commitment to service left a lasting impression on our students.

We are incredibly grateful to Jamie for helping a new generation understand why we must never forget—and why the lessons of September 11th continue to matter today. 🇺🇸

🌊 Tashlich at Strathmore Pond

Today, our North Shore Middle School students stepped outside the classroom for a meaningful Tashlich experience at Strathmore Pond. 💙💛

Surrounded by the beauty of nature, students had the opportunity to pause, reflect on the past year, and think about the kind of people they hope to become in the year ahead. Together, we recited Tashlich and connected the lessons of teshuvah, growth, and new beginnings to our own lives.

It was a beautiful moment of tefillah, reflection, and achdut as we prepare for the year ahead.

May we all be written and sealed for a year filled with bracha, growth, happiness, and success. 🍎🍯
