Since the reunion is about nine months into the future, why should we send in a deposit now? The Boca Raton Marriott is a very popular hotel, and this is high season in Florida. We need to book way in advance to reserve the ballroom on Friday, March 10, and we need your deposits to meet that guarantee.
Why Boca Raton and not Great Neck? Over 65% or more of the respondents from last February's survey wanted a reunion in South Florida. Boca Raton is in Palm Beach County, just north of Miami Beach. The area is known for its great beaches and fabulous sunny climate. Great Neck of the 1950s doesn't exist anymore; it's only in our mind's eye and our memories. The point is the reunion is not about a place but about people reminiscing and sharing our memories.
Why the Boca Raton Marriott? It's new, modern, and has awesome amenities, especially with the lower room rates that we have negotiated. Best of all, it's in a great location; close to the beach, Atlantic Ave restaurants in Delray Beach, and only about a half-hour or less from Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach Airports. It's also about 45 minutes from Miami International AP.
How much will it cost to stay at the Boca Marriott? We have secured a block of rooms for $249/night. There are numerous hotels and motels in the area, starting at about $125/night, and there here are several restaurants near the hotel.
Is the area safe, and will the ballroom offer social distancing if the covid pandemic reemerges? It's very safe on every level. What is unique about the Veranda Room at the Marriott is that it is a corner ballroom with two of the four walls completely open to a very gracious outdoor, large terrace/patio. You can enjoy the buffet reunion from inside or outside on the terrace.
Will there be enough room for social distancing and allow us to mingle with everyone? Although this will be an indoor-outdoor buffet dinner, there will be large round tables for tables inside and outside the space, which will allow for table hoping to enjoy each other's company and share photos of our kids and grandkids.
