Congratulations to the Lake County-NAACP Scholarship Recipients: Nadiyah Johnson, Eric Franklin, and Mariama Bah! These young people are academic scholars and a great representation of uplift in the Lake County and Black community. Nadyah (Biochemistry) is headed to Spelman College, Mariama (Computer Science) is headed to Northwestern Univ, and Eric (Sports Management) will soon make a choice between Univ of Kansas, Adam State Univ, and Ottawa. KUDOS!!!

The Marcus E. Bradford 'Noble Warrior' Scholarships were awarded to: Michael Lee of Vernon Hills HS; Nicole Stieff of Round Lake HS; Syam Atade-Nanguit of Mundelein HS; and Jamar Mays of North Chicago HS. The SDC-Harris Legacy Scholarship, which has been awarded for the past 12 years acknowledges its recipient: Mariama Bah of New Tech @ Zion-Benton HS. 'NOBLE WARRIOR' MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP for Graduating HS Seniors
This memorial scholarship is given in memory of Marcus Bradford, who graduated from VHHS in 2011. Marcus touched many lives with his amazing smile, kindness, work ethic, and ability to “light up a room.” He was a three-sport athlete, participating in wrestling, track and field, and his big love, football. He liked electronics, trying new things, and entertaining friends with his great cooking skills. He attended Benedictine University and the College of Lake County (Grayslake) before serving his country in the Navy. Marcus’s name means “noble warrior,” which he epitomized, whether on or off the field. He was a well-loved athlete, friend, and wonderful son.

Four $1,250 Scholarships will be awarded.

Criteria:
•Minimum two-sport athlete (share two sports)
•2.0 GPA minimum; Must be a graduating Senior.
•Financial need, based on FAFSA Student Aid Report (please include a copy)
•Copy of Official Transcript (signed and stamped by Counselor’s Office)
•Copy of acceptance letter from University, College, Technical School or other career training program that you plan to pursue
•Signed Letter of recommendation from a HS Teacher, Mentor or Community Leader
•Completion of 250 word personal statement. Choose one:
o What obstacles have you overcome since entering high school, and how do you believe this will help you in achieving your future plans?
o Describe yourself and how your personality (or giftedness) is influencing the career path you are considering.
