📚☀️ Learning is even better outdoors! 🌿

Our 4th graders enjoyed some fresh air and sunshine while reading outside on Friday! After some peaceful reading time, we got moving with a fun game of “Red Light, Green Light” to explore the science of potential and kinetic energy! ⚡🏃‍♀️

Students discovered that when they were standing still, they had potential energy, and when they moved on “green light,” they demonstrated kinetic energy — the energy of motion! What a fun way to bring science concepts to life through movement, play, and hands-on learning! 💚🔴

Nothing beats a little sunshine, a good book, and learning by doing! 🌞📖

🎭 A Little Nostalgia, A Lot of Talent, and Some Puppet Magic! 🍂

What a wonderful experience for our students as Stevens Puppets brought the classic tale of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow to life right here in Grass Lake! 🎃🐎

There is something truly special about the nostalgia of a traditional marionette show. The craftsmanship, intricate movements, storytelling, and sheer talent required to bring these characters to life are incredible, especially when you realize it’s all the work of ONE performer! 👏

Following the performance, students were given a behind-the-scenes look at the workings of a marionette, discovering the skill, coordination, and artistry that go into making these wooden characters seem so lifelike.

And the best part? Our students were completely captivated! The laughter could be heard throughout the performance, a wonderful reminder that sometimes the simplest forms of entertainment leave the biggest impressions. ❤️

In a world filled with screens and technology, it was refreshing to watch an old-fashioned art form capture the attention and imagination of a whole new generation.

🐾🌎 The Bobcat in Our Backyard! 🌎🐾

Our 5th-grade explorers were back in action today for another incredible National Geographic Explorer Classroom Wildlife Series adventure! This time, we joined wildlife photographer and explorer Vishal Subramanyan for The Bobcat in My Backyard! 📸🐱

Meet Blondie, an 11-year-old bobcat who has become quite the neighborhood celebrity simply by living her life in a small California park! 🐾❤️

Bobcats sometimes get a bad reputation, but Blondie’s story reminds us of the importance of seeing wildlife through a different lens. By sharing their stories, we can replace fear with curiosity, build understanding, and recognize that these animals are simply trying to live their lives alongside ours.

🌿 It’s all about balance, respect, and learning to coexist!

One of our favorite moments was watching Izzy Smith ask Vishal her question LIVE! 🎤🌎 Opportunities for students to connect directly with real explorers, ask questions, and let their curiosity lead the conversation are what make these experiences so meaningful!

And yes, we’ve officially decided that we NEED a Blondie the Bobcat plushie! 🐱🧸 What better little ambassador to help us advocate for Blondie and bobcats everywhere?!

📝 Our next explorer mission? Our 5th-grade crew will be telling their own wildlife tales, but with a TWIST! Stay tuned to see how our young storytellers bring the wildlife around them into focus!

Vishal left us with a powerful reminder:

🌎 You don’t have to travel across the world to discover charismatic animals. Sometimes, they’re right outside your own door!

⛳️🌱 Taking Science OUT of the Classroom! 🍂🔬

Our 5th graders spent a beautiful fall day learning at Calderone Golf Club through the The Welcome Home Organization - WHO First Green Program!

First Green turns golf courses into outdoor classrooms, giving students hands-on opportunities to explore the real-world science, technology, engineering, arts, and math that go into managing a golf course. Our Warriors learned about different types of soil, turfgrass and root systems, course maintenance, specialized equipment and tools, and the science behind keeping a golf course healthy and playable. 🌱🧪🚜

Students were able to see how concepts they learn in the classroom connect to actual careers and everyday problem-solving. First Green learning experiences can include everything from soil science and water conservation to environmental stewardship, turf management, technology, and golf course operations.

And we couldn’t have asked for a better Michigan fall day to do it! ☀️🍁

A huge THANK YOU to Calderone Golf Club and First Green for your hospitality and for giving our 5th graders such a fun, hands-on learning experience. We appreciate everyone who took the time to share their knowledge with our Warriors and turn the golf course into our classroom for the day! 💙💛

4th graders showed their spirit in warrior gear while they explored how potential energy transforms into kinetic energy with popsicle-stick catapults in order to launch candy pumpkins down the hallway! 16 feet was our furthest launch recorded! 🎃💙💛📣
