Sorry I went full “Rick Beato/ guitar nerd”on this but I’ve always loved this section of the song. As a kid, I knew the solo but only as a muscle memory kinda thing that was in G major. And honestly, that’s fine, your ear(and playing parts well) is really more important. Nobody cares if you know all the modes if you’re terrible.
Anyway, this is a breakdown of the solo and bridge section from the song Since You’ve Been Gone by Rainbow.
All my fellow nerds can jump in if I’ve missed something here but I think my analysis is correct. Definitely an A- at worst? I’m grateful for my music theory training at EMU, it wasn’t always easy but it really helped my musicianship. My only regret was it was mostly classical harmony, I wish I had more jazz training. I often have theory questions from some of the tunes in the Real Book. I guess there’s still time to learn but the “ol’metronome of life” definitely seems to be speeding up.
