Sorry I went full “Rick Beato/ guitar nerd”on this but I’ve always loved this section of the song. As a kid, I knew the solo but only as a muscle memory kinda thing that was in G major. And honestly, that’s fine, your ear(and playing parts well) is really more important. Nobody cares if you know all the modes if you’re terrible.
Anyway, this is a breakdown of the solo and bridge section from the song Since You’ve Been Gone by Rainbow.
All my fellow nerds can jump in if I’ve missed something here but I think my analysis is correct. Definitely an A- at worst? I’m grateful for my music theory training at EMU, it wasn’t always easy but it really helped my musicianship. My only regret was it was mostly classical harmony, I wish I had more jazz training. I often have theory questions from some of the tunes in the Real Book. I guess there’s still time to learn but the “ol’metronome of life” definitely seems to be speeding up.

I’m guessing if you’ve got kids with a Nintendo Switch you’ve heard this theme 1,000x before. Maybe someone in the Red Hot Chili Peppers has a similar experience because the two songs are kinda close.
The game is called Undertale.
The RHCP song is called Can’t Stop/Won’t Stop.

I subbed with the outlaw country band The Orbitsuns last night. What a gas.
I give myself 70/30 on performance. I’d hail a 75 yard touchdown pass on a couple jams and then fumble at the 1 yard line on another. The important thing in this football analogy is that we won the game easily.

Monday piano is back! 734-635-2909
Introducing Craig Blair from right here in Grass Lake! He’s accepting new students starting Monday July 6th.
Slots will be 3:00-7:30 to start.
Of course we offer guitar, drum, bass and ukulele lessons as well!
Craig’s Bio:
I started keyboard lessons at 4 years old, where I learned to read music before I could read english, and continued lessons for about 8 years. I learned piano in college and had the pleasure of teaching my three daughters basics of piano, and how to improvise when they were kids.
I played keyboard in church worship services in Augusta Georgia and in Waterloo Iowa.
I was also in three separate church choirs for over 10 years singing bass, baritone and tenor. I presently help lead worship at the Grass Lake Assembly of God church.
I also wrote sheet music for a singer / composer about 4 years ago. My teaching method mimics my childhood teacher in that he taught entire pieces before getting too deep, while still stressing fi*****ng exercises throughout the learning process, with chords being the first thing you learn.

I’ll say this, these posters look a lot smaller on the venue walls. After we played I asked if I could have it and the owner agreed. I got it home and there’s really no free space for it where I wanted it. So it’ll live here for now.
Nobody puts baby in a corner! Not sure how I know that quote because I’ve never seen the movie. 🍿🎥

More recital band jams.

Just a Closer Walk With Thee. Performed by Dave Hing. I love the solo acoustic parts of the recital.
Apparently there is no known composer of this piece. Like so much earlier music it sort of just exists in the universe and has been passed down through notation and lessons for decades. So many versions!

Open E to first fret=F?
No! It’s still E
First fret to second fret=F #?
No! Still E!
Can I ever play an F?
Yes, that’s on the third fret.
But that’s where G goes.
Not anymore, I’m the neck, the notes will lay where I say! 😂.
We fixed the problem the string was stuck underneath the fret causing the odd but not totally uncommon phenomenon on smaller scale guitars.
