🚑 NEW NATIONAL STANDARD FOR EMS PROVIDER SAFETY – NFPA 455

Violence against EMS providers continues to rise across the country. In response, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has introduced NFPA 455 – Standard on Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Personnel Workplace Violence Prevention and Response.

This new standard emphasizes the importance of:

✔ Situational awareness
✔ Verbal de-escalation
✔ Personal safety strategies
✔ Defensive tactics focused on escape and disengagement

At DT4EMS, we are proud to say that our EVE4Fire/EMS Training Programs already meet and exceed the principles outlined in NFPA 455.

Our programs train providers to:

🔹 Recognize early warning signs of violence
🔹 Use proven verbal de-escalation techniques
🔹 Protect themselves from assault while maintaining patient care
🔹 Safely disengage from dangerous encounters
🔹 Document and report violent incidents appropriately

Unlike traditional defensive tactics programs, DT4EMS training is designed specifically for the medical environment, ensuring techniques are practical for:

• Ambulances
• Emergency Departments
• Patient homes
• Confined clinical spaces

Our focus is simple:

➡ Protect the provider
➡ Protect the patient
➡ Create an opportunity to safely disengage

As EMS agencies begin adopting NFPA 455 workplace violence prevention programs, DT4EMS is ready to support departments with training that is compliant, practical, and built for real-world EMS encounters.

If your department is preparing to meet the NFPA 455 standard, we would be honored to help.

📩 Message us to learn more about our NFPA 455–aligned training programs.

This is a House Bill that I could stand behind!

If you assault a firefighter, EMS worker, doctor, nurse or any other health care worker in a hospital’s emergency department, you face higher criminal penalties. And if the assault “inflicts demonstrable bodily harm” that’s a felony.
