Today is Maria Montessori’s Birthday!
Maria was born on August 31, 1870, the year that Italian women could legally attend public school. She was the first female accepted into The School of Medicine in Rome and was the first female physician in Italy.

In addition to being a physician, educator, and innovator, she was acclaimed for her educational method that is centered on a child’s natural curiosity to learn.

She opened the first Montessori school, the Casa dei Bambini, or Children’s House—in Rome on January 6, 1907.
When she observed students and gave them a choice to play or to do "work" — they chose to do “work.” That is one of the reasons why we call learning activities in the classroom "work" not “play.”

🚫🍶 2,113 plastic bottles saved — and counting! Together, we've already kept thousands of plastic water bottles out of our waste stream.

We're incredibly grateful to The Granville Community Foundation for funding our water refill station. On these hot summer days, our campers and staff are enjoying the refreshing cold water it provides. With the refill station in place at school, we can be sure everyone stays hydrated and safe in the summer heat.
