Capital City Equestrian, Inc is a not-for-profit organization that provides recreational and educational oppotunities with horses. to 12:00 noon.
“A mind that is stretched to a new idea, never returns to its original dimension”
This famed quote by Oliver Wendell Holmes epitomizes the goal of our organization, Capital City Equestrian Inc. Children today, particularly those who live in high risk environments, suffer from a problem far less obvious than crime, drugs, and poor health. They suffer from a lack of inspiration. The absence of new,
exciting, and engaging sources of healthy stimulation leads to boredom, depression and blind acceptance of status quo. It is essential that the childhood flame of inspiration and imagination be ignited by a constant stream of new experiences and ideas in order for them to flourish and grow into adulthood. We, at Capital City Equestrian, Inc., a not-for-profit organization that provides recreational and educational services to urban youth, are hoping to employ and personify this philosophy. We are preparing to launch a pilot version of our program in August, 2009. The project, will be held in North Linden's Innis Park, and will provide riding and horsemanship programs to 50 to 80 urban youth ages 8 to 18 years old. Summer camp will be conducted as one- week modules, with students attending session from 9 a.m. Activities will include daily riding instruction, basic horse care, education and exposure to different equine related disciplines, crafts, fitness and conditioning, and family participation events. At the end of each child’s camp experience they will have gained knowledge and respect of horses and basic skills in horsemanship. The educational component of the camp will teach new equestrian terms and concepts, contributing to the overall education of the participants. This will enrich their sense of self worth and affirm their ability to overcome physical, academic, and environmental obstacles. Equine assisted learning and therapy with children is being used in many cities throughout the country and is proving invaluable to the lives of those who participate. The children find their lives charged by a sense of accomplishment and success and are encouraged to explore further equestrian pursuits, and to seize the reins of their own lives and destinies. To insure this great experience for these young people, we are in need of several types of donations. Please review the list below and consider any way that you would be able to make a contribution. All donations are tax deductible. v In kind monetary donations for the purchase or rental of equipment
