The Butterfly House is Now Open! Our exhibit was visited by Little Miss Monarch today proudly holding a Monarch she befriended!

This is the largest Florida viceroy I’ve ever raised! Florida Viceroys mimic the Queen butterfly similar to the way Eastern Viceroys mimic the Monarch. Both are Mullerian mimics. This particular viceroy is actually larger then the queens pictured next to it.

Fresh Florida Viceroy emerged today in our vanbulance! This subspecies has beautiful dark rich coloration!

This Cithaerias menander is probably the hardest butterfly I’ve ever caught. It flies super close to the ground in the thick understory of the forest and as it flies all you are able to see is the occasional flash of pink as it disappears.

Here’s a small patch butterfly on the cutest girl alive aka my wife! This is at our friends butterfly house in Boquete Panama and is one of coolest places in the world to visit.

This is the White Witch moth of legends. The largest moth in the world! Can’t believe I finally got to see it! This specimen came into a light trap at our friends house

What a crazy cricket! Anyone want to suggest an ID i’d appreciate it. Orthoptera are not my specialty but I think I’ll post a bunch of katydids in the next post one was bigger than this one!
