We provide a nurturing, play-based learning environment where children grow, explore, and thrive every day. Welcome to Miss Jenn's Childcare and Preschool, a nurturing in-home childcare and preschool where learning feels like family. We provide a safe, loving, and stimulating environment designed to support each child's growth - socially, emotionally, and academically. With a small group setting,

we're able to give personalized attention and build strong relationships with both children and their families. Our play-based curriculum encourages creativity, independence, and curiosity through hands-on activities, early literacy, and exploration. We also focus on social skills, kindness, and confidence - laying the foundation for a lifetime of learning. Here, your child is not just cared for - they're known, supported, and celebrated.

One of the best parts of this work is the relationships we build with both the children and their families. A thoughtful Teacher Appreciation surprise this week (packed full of all my favorite things!) was such a kind reminder of that. Feeling very thankful! 💕

Today we began our piñata art in celebration of Cinco de Mayo. Activities like this support fine motor development, creativity, and focus, while also creating opportunities to introduce children to different cultures and traditions in an age-appropriate way.

Our mud kitchen has quickly become a favorite space! While it may look like simple messy play, so much meaningful learning is happening here. Children are exploring creativity, practicing problem-solving, building early math skills through measuring and mixing, and strengthening social skills as they collaborate and share ideas. Sensory play like this also supports fine motor development and encourages curiosity about the natural world. Learning truly comes to life when children are free to explore!

Snow day = opportunity.

Last week we filled a large sensory tub with fresh snow and invited the kids to explore painting it with colored water.

What looks like “just play” is actually:

• Fine motor development
• Color mixing experimentation
• Sensory processing
• Cause and effect learning
• Creative expression

Last week we read “Never Let a Unicorn Scribble” and then let the children do exactly that - scribble!
Over several days, the kids explored color, different materials, movement, and mark-making, then layered their work with unicorn silhouettes to create these one-of-a-kind masterpieces. This project wasn’t about a “perfect” end result - it was about creativity, patience, and letting ideas evolve over time.
Process art builds confidence, fine motor skills, and self-expression…and as you can see, every unicorn has its own personality 💕

This week’s sensory activity focuses on Arctic animals and fine motor development.
Using dried great northern beans, children practice scooping, pouring, hand strength, coordination, and early math concepts like full/empty and more/less.

Paired with books and open-ended materials, this bin encourages curiosity, language, and imaginative play 💕

After exploring our melted snowman sensory bin last week, the children used the same loose parts to create their own melted snowman artwork. Using paint, buttons, cinnamon sticks, and other materials, each child designed a unique snowman inspired by their hands-on sensory experience.
This process supports fine motor development, creativity, and problem-solving while encouraging children to make choices and express themselves artistically. Reusing materials from the sensory bin also helps children make connections between play, art, and learning.☃️💕

This week we’ve explored a cozy winter sensory bin using oats, cinnamon sticks, star anise, dried orange slices, crystallized ginger, and allspice berries. This calming sensory experience invites children to slow down, engage their senses, and explore different textures, shapes, and natural scents in a gentle, hands-on way.

Sensory play like this supports fine motor development (scooping, pouring, grasping), language growth (describing smells and textures), focus and self-regulation, and creativity through open-ended exploration. It’s also a wonderful way to create a peaceful, cozy moment during the winter season.

🧺 Try it at home:
• Choose a base like oats, rice, or dry beans
• Add natural loose parts (cinnamon sticks, dried citrus, spices, wooden scoops)
• Include small bowls, cups, or spoons for pouring and transferring
• Supervise closely and talk about what your child notices…smells, textures, sounds

Simple materials, rich sensory learning, and a whole lot of cozy ❄️💕

Today we explored a melted snowman sensory bin using rice, cinnamon sticks, buttons, and loose parts. Sensory play like this helps build fine motor skills, encourages creativity and storytelling, supports early math concepts (sorting, counting, scooping), and gives children a calming, hands-on way to explore textures.
