Dr. Teresia Nzau has been given the Newsom Award from the PR Research Division of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. The Newsom award addresses research in global ethics and diversity, and Teresia received it for her paper “Strategic Silence in Crisis Communication: Defining, Assessing Effectiveness, and Exploring Cultural and Intersectional Influences Among Kenyan Public Relations Practitioners.” 📝

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be highlighting senior seminar research projects from fall 2025.

Nicholas explains, “This past semester, I have had the privilege to conduct a qualitative study on narrative theory and how healthy practices are influenced through peer-to-peer conversation. This project required the accumulation of previous research relevant to my study, followed by focus group, and later my written research findings and discussion.”

AI Bootcamp 🤖

As part of the “Educational Innovation in Gen AI Grants Pilot” (offered by the Office of Faculty Development), I completed NACE’s AI Bootcamp where we looked at AI tools for all aspects of career development and the job search. In this session, I shared how AI can help students identify and articulate transferable skills they’ve gained through coursework and part-time jobs. Students gain many transferable skills in COMM 105 including critical thinking, teamwork, time and project management, and public speaking. - Ashley Jones, Director of Career & Professional Development Center and Department of Communication adjunct professor.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be highlighting senior seminar research projects from fall 2025.

Lu-Zheng explains, “Buckle up, are we ready for AI? This study considers the media literacy of a media pluralistic nation, such as the United States, and if the residents of the nation are prepared to guard themselves from AI misinformation via information seeking behavior.”
