What a wonderful first day camp at The Pond Beyond Nature Center!
Our Bugs and More Day Camp was led by Judy Dahlberg, who brought over 30 years of science teaching experience and a contagious enthusiasm for the amazing world of bugs.
The day began with the question, "What is a bug?" The kids shared their ideas, learned about the different groups of insects and their relatives, and impressed us with how engaged and curious they were. They sorted bug groups, raced to create colorful chalk bugs in a fun dice game, and then headed into piles of leaf litter to discover what was hiding underneath. Along with lots of fascinating creepy crawlies, they found salamanders, slugs, and snails!
After a hike around the property searching for even more tiny creatures, everyone enjoyed a picnic lunch, treats, and music from Tim and Cyndi. We wrapped up the day exploring pond water and using natural materials to create their own imaginative bugs.
There was laughter, discovery, and so many smiles. It was the perfect way to spend a summer day, and we can't wait for our next camp!
Thank you to Judy, our volunteers, and all of the wonderful campers who made the day so special.
