Oh classmates, this one hurts a little bit. We lost another classmate, Doug Smith passed away yesterday. It’s my understanding he had pneumonia and complications and his body just wore out. Thank you to Chris for letting me know and when we get arrangements I will share. Our condolences and prayers to his wife Lesa and their family. I pray we lose no more this year and get to see you all in person this October. Rest in peace Doug - you were a good man.

Okay classmates it’s now 2026 and our 50th class reunion will be here before we know it! Here’s your reminder for your Save the Date. Our 50th reunion will be held on October 24th from 5:30 until 10:00 PM at The Mill venue downtown Granite City. (1311 20th Street). The committee would appreciate you sharing the post in case some of our classmates are not on this Facebook account as well and telling our classmates that may not be on Facebook at all. Linda asks rather than just hitting the “like” button on here, if you’d hit it if you are planning to attend. Trying to get some idea of how many we need to plan for the caterer and set up. I personally have not yet had the opportunity to go to a function at The Mill but I am told it is very nice and other classes have had their reunions there. This will be for South graduates…North will be having a separate reunion. This will be our last solo class reunion as far as this committee is planning. After our 50th, beginning in 2027 we will be invited to join the Old Grads reunions. Looking forward to seeing everyone and missing those no longer with us. Come and share your good ole high school memories and good times! Cya there or be square as the saying goes. Any help with decorating or planning will be appreciated as well.@

Okay classmates that offered to help with the reunion…I know it’s last minute and I promise in the future it won’t be BUT I have scheduled a meeting for tonight at 7:30 at the Legacy clubhouse. We NEED you there if you can make it. Please try to come! Let me know.

I don’t remember which classmates said they would help plan our 50th class reunion. Can you please remind me? We need to set up a meeting and get some planning done. I’d like to plan an evening meeting and we can have it at the Legacy clubhouse. Is there a day of the week that may be better for you? We do have the venue booked for Oct 24, 2026 at The Mill in downtown Granite, but that about all we’ve got. So…we need help with all the rest of the planning. This is just a reunion for GCHS 1976 South classmates. North will be holding their own. After this reunion we will be included for the Old Grads reunion so I’d really like this one to be our “Big Bang” reunion for the books. Please spread the word S not everyone is on Facebook or possible not a Facebook friend. You can pm me or call me (Jackie - 618-691-9297). Please consider helping us. So far it’s just me, Linda Wells and Diane Jackson and we can’t do it justice without some help. Also, I will need any updated addresses if you have moved, especially in the last ten to fifteen years ago.

It is with sadness I am sharing yet another classmate gone too soon. Phil Werner passed away earlier this month at home. I don’t know any other details but his obituary is on the Wojstrom website. Prayers for his children and friends. RIP old friend.

Okay classmates…here’s a heads up to our FIFTIETH (gulp!) class reunion. The date will be October 24th (2026) and the venue is booked, The Mill, downtown Granite City. Of course we haven’t set ticket costs yet but we will. BTW if you have moved to a new address since the last big reunion, you need to email me that address ([email protected]). I have tried my best to stay on top of deaths and changes but some always seem to slip past me.

Okay here’s what else we need…many of you have said you’d help, well, here’s your chance. We’d like this last bash so to speak, be pretty top notch. That being said, being top notch does not mean extravagant and expensive BUT it would be nice to have some tasteful decorating. I am not real good at that stuff and I’m not sure Linda or Diane want to head that up. So we need a sub committee to take charge of planning and doing that. Any takers? We are planning to use local caterers to support our hometown businesses. Havent decided which one yet. The venue will play canned music from our era with I’m sure SOME current music.

Any extra thoughts or comments? Please share. Right now the reunion committe is myself (Jackie), Linda Wells and Diane Jackson.

Oh, anyone still interested in having another local get together at Legacy again? It sure has been nice the last two years seeing those who came. If so, I will get that booked with my hubby at the golf course, the sooner I know and can pick a date the better.

It is heartbreaking for me to make this post but as a friend I want to help them any way I can. Therefore, I am asking for help from any of you that can contribute. Here’s a little back story about Dale’s childhood friend, Terry Keeton who is also a classmate of mine and his wife Cindi. I have been friends with them for 50 years myself. This couple have been thru so much. We have daughters the same age and have been best friends all these years. Some 20 years ago their daughter was in a horrific car accident and almost lost her life. We spent many days at the hospital with them praying over her and supporting them on that scary journey. Soon after that their youngest daughter was diagnosed with cancer and sadly she died at age 7 and all our hearts were broken. We again spent many hours with them during those days giving what comfort we could. Fast forward a few more years when Dale and I were in a crisis, they came to our rescue and was there for us and again when Dale’s parents died, they were there to help us even then when Terry started having his health issues. You see something was going on with him and he had so many tests and surgeries, been to every local hospital for care and even to the mayo clinic and until now they couldn’t figure out what was wrong. He has been diagnosed with Sialidosis type 1. It is very rare and I can’t explain it very well, so you can look it up online to get those details. On top of this he has had several viruses that have now compromised his body and now also having some cardiac issues. Today he developed RSV and Cindi learned he has a collapsed lung. This brings me to my ask. The doctors have told Cindi that Terry will not get better, in fact he is dying and they cannot predict how long he has to live. They have had so many medical bills and so many trips to the hospital that the bills have become overwhelming and Cindi needs help - not just our prayers and comfort - but they need help financially too. Some of the medicines they have Terry on, and actually some of Cindi’s too, is experimental and not all covered by insurance. It was thought to start a Go fund me account for them but I told her that if she had Venmo or PayPal that people could donate that way and no fees would be taken out. So she has a Venmo account that you can donate to. Any amount at all will help. I am asking any of my family, friends, their friends and our GCHS class of 76 classmates if you can help at all to donate. If you can share this post or make one of your own to spread the word. Terry and Cindi had several successful businesses in Litchfield but had to retire early because of Terry’s declining health issues. He is currently in Barnes hospital very sick and weak and Cindi is spending 24/7 with him. They are trying to get him well enough to be transferred to a skilled nursing place but again, she’s been told he will not improve, he will just be kept comfortable until the end. If you can’t donate anything, would you please add both of them to your prayers. Terry is only 66 and should be enjoying his golden years with his beloved wife and grandchildren and its so sad that the last decade has been nothing but in and out of hospitals trying to get well. Thank you in advance for you help. Her Venmo id is -Keeton-1

It is with deep sadness I have to again share the news that another classmate has died. Linda Pool passed early this morning. She is already deeply missed by family and friends. My prayers and condolences to all are devastated by her passing.

Please continue to pray for Terry Keeton as well. He is very, very sick and is in need of a miracle.
