Only 29% of companies achieve rapid growth. That's not a market problem, it's a hiring problem.

Growth accelerates when leaders are aligned, empowered, and built to collaborate. But most hiring managers never test for those skills before making an offer.

A hiring tryout isn't an interview. It's a scrimmage.

Want to know a candidate's true character? Don't ask what they've accomplished. Ask who they admire.

Accomplishments can be rehearsed. Admiration reveals character.

Ask about three people. Watch whether their admiration is grounded and discerning, or idealized and unexamined.

The best hires admire people with clear eyes, not blind loyalty.

Every candidate tells you about their best months. But what happens when the incentives aren't landing?

Real character doesn't show up when they're hitting their numbers. It shows up when they're not.

Before your next offer, ask: "Tell me about a stretch where you weren't making your incentives. What did you do about it?" Then stop talking.

The best hires perform before the reward arrives.

Quick tip to improve relationships with your team, peers, or upper management.

Schedule time each week to meet for coffee, have a meal, or go for a walk with at least one person.

Sincerely check in with them. Not to correct, sell, or manipulate.

Be genuinely interested. Ask engaging questions and let them talk.

Be someone they can trust. Demonstrate you care.

Follow up on any promises you make.

Discipline and character aren't just personal virtues. They're hiring standards.

Jim Collins writes in Clear Thinking: "There is no effectiveness without discipline, and there is no discipline without character."

Discipline means a structured process, defined criteria, trained decision makers. Character means owning your results, not blaming candidates or the market.

Both can be developed. That's exactly what we do at Hire the Best.

Still hiring the same way and expecting different results?

Shane Parrish writes in Clear Thinking: "Inertia keeps us doing things that don't get us what we want."

Bad candidates, unmet expectations, slow ramp ups. Nothing changes because inertia is running your hiring decisions.

Einstein called it insanity. Parrish calls it inertia. Either way, it can be fixed.

I want to teach you a simple habit: WINs (What's Important Now?).

Every morning, define 1-3 WINs that advance you and your team. Keep a separate to do list.
Work on it only after completing your WINs.

Better to set one WIN and achieve it consistently than define three and leave some incomplete.

Your hiring system is failing. You haven't changed a thing.

Shane Parrish writes in Clear Thinking: "The longer we avoid the hard thing we know we should do, the harder it becomes to do."

Every delay makes the problem feel bigger than it is. The fix is still small, a few hours and a modest investment to build a hiring system that actually works.

Stop doubling down on broken.

Of your last 5 hires, how many are truly exceeding expectations?

Every hire that fell short cost you weeks of productivity, management time, damaged morale, and a role reposted and re-onboarded. Multiply that by 2 or 3 years.

The number is bigger than you want to know. Not knowing doesn't make it disappear, it just makes it easier to delay.

Calculate your real cost at hirethebest.co, and follow us so you never miss a hiring insight.

Your hiring process isn't as good as you think.

How many people have you hired in the past 12 months who failed to meet your expectations?

If the answer is more than one, your process and skills are the reason.

Shane Parrish writes in Clear Thinking: "Time is the ultimate currency of life." Every bad hire spends that currency on consequences a better process would have prevented.

Skills and systems can be fixed. Read more at hirethebest.co, and follow us so you never miss a hiring insight.
