Dear all,
I will no longer be the coordinator for the Kansas City Conference for Catholic Homeschoolers. The fictitious name, "Kansas City Conference for Catholic Homeschoolers," expires at the end of July. This is a legal thing needed to open a business bank account, which I will close at the end of July. We will shut down the website at the end of July as well. We will no longer answer emails at this address at the end of July.
I do believe that a conference is a worthy event needed not only for the individual homeschools but also to build community. I believe that for it to continue, it needs new vision and new leadership. I am willing to mentor that new leadership with a committee of committed, supportive members. However, I will not seek out nor pursue people; the desire for the conference's continuation will encourage them to seek any needed guidance, not necessarily from me.
May God bless each and every one of you and your families. May you all remember how very precious you are to Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. May you do all for the greater glory of God. May you remember to take time to develop and grow yourself as a teacher, to invigorate and enrich yourself as mom, and to pray and be at peace with yourself as a child of God so you can nurture saints for Heaven.
God Bless you,
Siobhan DeFeo

We have now entered the rule-making phase of the process and a copy of the proposed rules as drafted by State Treasurer Scott Fitzpatrick's office can be found here:https://www.sos.mo.gov/CMSImages/AdRules/moreg/2022/v47n5March1/v47n5a.pdf (see pp. 318-331).
Although this is an opt-in program and presently would not govern non-participants, I am concerned that these rules set a dangerous precedent for future interaction between homeschoolers and the State.
Among other things, the rules require homeschoolers to:
1. Comply with federal anti-discrimination provisions.
2. Submit a proposed curriculum plan.
3. Submit background checks for every adult residing in the home school.
4. Provide any other information as requested by the Treasurer.
I hope that you will review the rules and provide commentary on the proposed rules before March 30 (the deadline for comments) to:
Office of the State Treasurer, Harry S. Truman State Office Building, PO Box 210, Jefferson City, MO 65102, or by email at [email protected].
In addition to writing, I urge you to call his office to voice your concerns: 573.751.8533.
Please share.
God bless! Thank you for all you do and have done!

Dear all,
After much prayer and deliberation, I've decided to work towards an easy conference this year, with the hopes that I can bring a new coordinator in to guide for the 2023 conference - which should pull in more speakers since we will have more time to plan it.
For the time being, please note the following and mark your calendars:
Professional Development Day for Catholic Homeschoolers
Friday, June 3, 2022 (afternoon/evening) -
Saturday June 4, 2022 (9 - 3)
at Coronation of Our Lady in Grandview.
More details should be forthcoming in the next week/two weeks.
all homeschooling parents - new, in the trenches and veteran - your wisdom is needed! This conference will be a benefit for all homeschoolers. Suggest a topic or two. Offer to present something that you've found to make homeschooling a reality in your home.
All help is needed.
God bless you, Siobhan DeFeo
Dear all,
Due to the protocols put in place by parishes, the diocese, the city, the county, the state and the federal government, we have been unable to hold a Catholic homeschool conference in the Kansas City area for a couple of years. This is sad. I miss the camaraderie, the encouragement, the interaction. From personal experience as a young homeschooling mom and as a struggling homeschooling mom, I know that an annual conference was very beneficial to me as it would be to others.
As the most recent coordinator for the Kansas City Conference for Catholic Homeschoolers I feel obliged to either continue in this role or pass this role on to someone more deserving and with more of a vision to the future of homeschooling. Society has changed to such that I hardly recognize it and I don't easily function in it. How do people meet? How do people interact nowadays? How do we learn from one another? How do we inspire each other? I believe that the answers to these questions should not be via an electronic device; however, I feel alone in this thought.
Putting on a conference isn't hard, but it does take commitment and it does take vision. I could not have accomplished the past conferences without the aid and assistance of many lovely and wonderful fellow homeschoolers. I also looked to the path paved by the previous coordinator, Linda Nelson, former homeschooler and owner of Sacred Heart Books and Gifts. I am willing to coordinate another conference for the homeschooling community OR guide another person willing to take on this challenge. Either way, help is needed by many hands.
But the first question to address is should we even take the effort? Would parents take the time to attend? Is a conference a strong need or want for families? If the answer is a yes, are you willing to help? If the answer is conferences are obsolete - then please advise as such.
Over the next few weeks I will glean answers to these questions and input from anyone and everyone. I will pray and discern definitively what to do and post future plans by Ash Wednesday.
- PLEASE forward this email to any Catholic Homeschooler in the area you may feel this affects.
God Bless you all,
Siobhan DeFeo

Hello homeschooling families!
I wanted to let you know that Jon Krebsbach, the Benedictine College Director of Transfer Enrollment, will be representing Benedictine at a table in the vendor hall at the upcoming Kansas City Catholic Homeschool Conference - June 7 - 8. If you will be at the conference, please stop by the table and introduce yourself to Jon!
Because Jon assists students wishing to transfer to Benedictine, he is also a great resource for homeschoolers who are interested in learning how community college and other dual enrollment courses transfer to Benedictine. Jon is also a homeschool dad, so he understands the ins and outs of homeschool family life.
Jon will have at the conference copies of Benedictine's free guide for homeschool students and parents: The Catholic Homeschool Student & Parent Guide to Preparing for College Admission. Stop by the Benedictine table for information about how to access the guide. Or go online and request it ahead of time: http://www.Benedictine.edu/homeschoolguide.
It's not too late to register for the conference: http://kccatholichomeschooler.org/

Rosey Lebold is a Catholic wife and mother who wrapped up 21 years of homeschooling several years ago. Having experienced a conversion in her late twenties, her passion and desire is to encourage others to seek the Lord with all their heart, mind and strength, and to give Mary, their mother, a corresponding place in their spiritual lives. She enjoys reading books on the interior life and Carmelite saints, cooking, and gardening.
